New Library Access

Server Version#: 1.42.1.10060
Player Version#: Doesn’t Matter

I just created 2 new library’s on my server and the only account that can access is my main account. None of the home users or managed library access can see the new library. I have tried giving the users all library’s, nothing. And I can’t select the library’s to give access to because it’s not listed. What am i missing?

not listed where?

When you go to Plex Home and select the user, any user. Under Libraries you can edit and change it from All libraries to only give access to certain ones. The newly created library’s aren’t even listed there and all libraries doesn’t give access to the newly created library’s.

I’ll try and go into more detail. From my server, logged in as “Home Account”. I went to manage/libraries and created 2 new libraries. Just test libraries, configured just like my other libraries that are working. When i go back to the main area with all my libraries logged in as “Home Account” everything shows just as it should. When I switch to a “Managed Account” the 2 new libraries aren’t listed at all. So I went back to my server and under Plex Home / Managed users, any user, to make sure they had access to the Library to begin with because some only have access to certain libraries the two new libraries aren’t even listed as option to give them access to. And the All libraries option doesn’t give them access to it either.

I don’t see any account associated with your “whtdrgn” account named “Home Account” Are you just using that as a generic term for the Home Admin?

Yes, i’m using “Home Account” as the home admin. I just used Home Admin because that’s what shows on the Plex Home page. I tried creating a couple more test libraries and NONE of the newly created libraries show for any users under “Plex Home” or under “Manage Library Access”. Only the old libraries that i’ve had configured for years now.

I restarted the Plex server and now the new libraries are showing. Not sure if a restart will have to happen for new libraries going forward, but I can now access the new library from other users.

Thanks good to know. As far as I know should not need to do that but I will ask folks about that.

I don’t think you need to restart, but try refreshing plex web after creating a library. The user page might be showing cached info and the refresh should help.

mine on debian trixie does the same thing. the only way to get it to show up is restart the server. then if you remove the library it still shows it can be added to a user. amazing how it has not been fixed in a month and i have to restart the service every time i make or remove a library.

@L3GI0N1 I would probably need to get server logs for dev team after creating a new library and waiting a few minutes. and from after a restart if it does not work then either. ( i am assuming you are at least refreshing the web app page.

@whtdrgn thanks for reporting! :plexheart: Can you confirm that Library Access is working when using the bundled web app (localhost:32400/web)? I was able to confirm the issue on app.plex.tv ( 4.149.0) but everything seems to be working on the bundled web app ( 4.147.1). Looks like a web issue. Thanks again for reporting.

I’ve literally just encountered the same issue.
Created a new library, and cannot grant access for any user to that library using either app.plex.tv [4.149.0], or localhost:32400/web [4.147.1]. If I could work out where the option is on the Plex Dash app, I’d try it there also.

It doesn’t appear in the list of checkboxes to select for the user when going through either workflow:

  • 3 dot menu, Grant Access, User, Library list
  • Settings, Plex Home, User, Libraries, Server, Edit

I have yet to restart the server because it’s still detecting intros, but will do so shortly and update this post as to whether I can do it one way or another.

Update: I let it finish the processing and checked again, with no change to the above. Server restarted and the option to grant the user access to the library is available via both workflows on both web clients.

@PrinterElf Thanks for reporting. I must have goofed on the steps when attempting to repro on the bundled app :man_facepalming: :person_bowing:. I am also seeing it there too. I did create an internal issue when I first responded so there is that… Lets wait and see what the engineers find. Thanks again everyone for reporting and sorry for the inconvenience this issue has caused.

I don’t think that restarting fixes it, I think it’s time. I had this happen to me back in mid-july, and multiple restarts didn’t get the library to appear for anybody else. After a few minutes, however, it popped up just fine. There’s some problem either way, but it ain’t related to the last couple of released versions. I’ve also made a new library since and it’s popped up with no problem.

Whatever it is, it’s been a problem since at least the July 15th version, since I had the problem on July 18th.

@BigWheel here is the screen shots of me loading a new library (2K movies) and it not showing up to be able to allow a user access to the newly created library. the library does not show up until after the service has been restarted. i the past i have not had to restart the service to get the library to show up. i logged out cleared web browser cache & history. logged back in. it still showed the same. it only shows up when the service is restarted. i have also attached the logs all the way up to after restarting the service. this has been going on for a while now. on my debian 13/trixie. also to remove the library and access i have to restart the service.

Plex Media Server Logs_2025-09-26_13-10-02.zip (199.0 KB)

I had the same problem after setting up second server running in Docker/Ubuntu. When Watchtower pulled the recent update, the server restarted and fixed the problem.

One item of note - I didn’t create any libraries when I first set up the server and connected it to my Plex Pass account…I didn’t create any that afterward. Perhaps that non-standard flow contributes to this issue in some way?
