Musicbrainz.org needs to know about it. Otherwise it can’t make the connection.
So verify that the artist record on musicbrainz has a link to allmusic and/or last.fm
Ok, I had a look on Musicbrainz.org for one of the artist and it has all the info on them. What else do I need to do?
Here’s a screenshot of what my setting are saying about remote access. Is this the problem?
I restarted my NAS and Plex too and the problem seems to be sorted, so all good.
Remote Access has nothing to do with artist metadata.
Are you familiar with musicbrainz?
The artist needs to have a link to allmusic listed under ‘Relations’
Yeah, I didn’t think the remote access has anything to do with the metadata, but since that restart both those issues were sorted, so must have just been a coincidence.
I’m kinda familiar with Musicbrainz. I’ve recently started using Musicbrainz Picard for tagging my music, which is a great tool, as before I was using Kid3 for tagging.
The metadata on Plex before the recent up date was pretty much non existent.
I get that some artists won’t have any info, but for example I was trying to get metadata for Dave Grohl and Head Automatica and thought it was strange that nothing was coming up for either.
No issues with Dave Grohl here:
Head Automatica should be working as well, since it has all the necessary links.
Verify if your tracks have been converted (if they were added into the library before PMS version 1.18)
Inspect the content of the guid="...."
, parentGuid="...."
and grandparentGuid="...."
properties in the Plex XML info
Dave Grohl works for me now, but it didn’t earlier.
What should I be looking for with the XML stuff then? I’m not that great with the real techy stuff.
Just compare what it says at the beginning. If there is plex://
then it is using the new stuff and all should be well.
It it is something different, I’d like to hear what it says.
Actually, if you only have a few tracks and not an album, then you might have to use ‘Fix Match’ at the artist level.
I agree. I was nervous at the start but am overall pretty pleased with the new upgrade to Music. Only about 50% of my collection is listed in Allmusic so a lot of my library was unaffected. However I do have two libraries on the same Server. The first one scanned nicely with all the new/refreshed metadata provided for those albums listed in Allmusic and Musicbrainz. But there was no change or update to any metadata in the second library. And I upgraded as well as ‘rrefesh metat data’ at least twice. Its a largeish library (6500+ complete albums) but interesting to see it worked for one library and not the other. Any clues as to what is going on?
Make sure the second library has been converted as well (if it was a regular “last.fm” library and not Premium Music library, you’ll have to do the conversion explicitly. )
Also edit the library and make sure that both scanner and agent are set to ‘Plex Music’.
Try the Plex Dance “light” (omitting step 4) with one artist’s albums.
It would be awesome if “styles” were used/incorporated. Many people often confuse “genre” and “style,” assuming they’re the same thing. They are not.
By way of example, earlier in this thread someone suggested that “Slayer” being tagged as “Pop/Rock” is not accurate. Slayer is indeed “Pop/Rock.” Their “style” is most often referred to as “Hard Rock” or “Heavy Metal.”
Everything from The Archies to Slayer is Pop/Rock. Their styles, however, are completely different.
