New Pi Plex Server - You do not have access to this server

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.32.8.7639
Player Version#: Web or Windows 4.122.0
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I accessed an old Plex server hosted by my brother on another network until today when I built my own server on a Pi device on my local network. On the initial attempt to access the new server at http://192.168.8.11:32400/web I was asked to sign in and not prompted for server configuration.
All I get is the error “Not authorized You do not have access to this server. You may be able to claim it by choosing “Open Plex…” from the Plex menu in the macOS menu bar or Windows system tray.”
I cannot seem to get past this and have even removed the server from the Pi using “dpkg -r plexmediaserver” and then “rm /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/”
Once removed I reinstalled with the same error. I am not a power user and can use all the help possible as I work to learn Linux and Plex.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance

If you’re doing a cold/fresh setup on the same host (server) name, you must first remove the old one.

open - https://app.plex.tv

shortcut: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

  • find and REMOVE the old one.
  • Control+F5 to refresh your browser
  • Now open the server by LAN IP again.

Thanks. Everything was new except for my Plex account.

Solved.
After reading some other posts on similar topics but different host types I got some new ideas. I tried using my laptop on the same vlan as my media network (even though I could see and access the pi host fine on another vlan) and I was able to complete the setup.
