To add info. I have never been able to reliably use the new player for Live TV, so I always turn it off if it updates. There was a recent update to the client that doesn’t allow you to turn off the new player. It says “No” in the settings, but look and feel seem to be the new player. I can only watch Live TV for a few minutes before to reverts back to the previous menu.
You can still use the old player for library content, however Live TV now always uses the new player
The problem is that the new player doesn’t work for Live TV on the Fire TV Stick 4k.
It definitely does in some cases and regions, so it must be something specific to the streams you’re receiving. If you can do what sixones has asked, that should help with investigation.
Thanks. I just sent sixones my log with two crashes.
Hi @sixones I am on the latest version of the beta app ( 8.9.0.21490) and I definitely still see the problem of the same episode attempting to be played again in the postplay. For me I only see this when I am using Shuffle to randomise playback and rather than actually replaying the previous episode , a black screen with no audio is presented until the episode finishes (for the second time) and then the next ‘shuffled’ episode starts and plays normally.
I am aware that this thread is not specific to this issue so I am happy to create a dedicated topic and provide any logs that will help to address if you (or anybody else) has the appetite to continue looking into this problem. In fact, the term problem is actually an understatement when my daughters next episode of Peppa Pig fails to appear in a timely fashion!
@sixones, regarding the Live TV freeze issue, v8.8.1 is no different than others and repeatedly freezes within 3-4 minutes. I disabled refresh rate switching, though I’m not sure what you meant by resolution switching – I can find no such setting. I did disable ‘adjust automatically’ and set transcoding @ 4mbps max (remote side has 40mbps upload bandwidth). In the attached log
21:29:40 Tuned local channel (HDHomerun Prime/Comcast CableCard).
21:32:46 Freeze.(File removed)
Can someone from Plex please provide an update? Seriously, how difficult can it be to dig into these logs and resolve this, or at least fix the Android TV client to revert to allowing the old player until you can figure it out? To echo an earlier reply, it’s frustrating seeing this Android client in permanent beta (and I would argue this feels more like alpha) state.
We’re working on some extensive player improvements at the moment, but I’ll try and follow this particular thing up
Thanks for the logs, was expecting to see something on why playback is ending, but it seems the playback request ends up 404’ing from your server.
Would you be able to replicate the issue again, grab the logs from the Android client and grab the logs from PMS at the same time, this should let us see the flow between the two and should highlight why it’s failing. You can DM me the logs to save yourself redacting them.
There are logs here
and here
from many many users.
This isn’t new.
I even included some sample transcoded files from WTHR 13
I think I might have found what is related to the issue. The new player will “Transcode Interlaced Live TV”. I noticed that it wasn’t playing the Original File on my LAN at home. Someone else mentioned turning this off in another thread. I turned it off and haven’t seen the issue yet. Previously, I saw the issue within a few minutes.
@sixones I sent you logs and transcoded files pertaining to the Live TV crash
subject is “Live TV freeze issue - fire tv stick 4k - logs and transcoded files”
The radio silence on this issue isn’t encouraging…
Sorry for my own belated reply, @sixones. Unfortuntaly it’s going to be a while before I can provide you any further logs, as the problem Shileld clients experiencing the live TV issue are in my vacation home and I don’t have a solid date when I’ll return. On the other hand, back at my main home (same LAN as the Synology Plex server), I am not seeing the issue on a local Sony Android TV or a pair of the newer 32-bit Shield “tubes”. Does it make any sense that the server would return 404s to remote clients, yet not local? One note: the two properties are site-to-site VPN connected, though I explicitly added a firewall rule to prevent remote clients from reaching the Plex server over the VPN (hence the reason we see (redacted) public IPs in that log). I may try to relax that firewall rule when I return, but it’s strange the old player doesn’t fall prey to this same issue.
@sixones how is this still broken???
@sixones, I am back at my vacation place for a few days and am able to replicate the disappearing LiveTV issue again. I’m on the very latest Shield client and server 1.21.1.3830. Same deal, Live TV just disappears and goes back to What’s On or Guide at under 4 minutes. I see 404 Not Found and 400 Bad request in the client logs. I will leave digging thru Server logs to you since they are very verbose and you know what you’re looking for. One thing of note that is different in my logs from last time: I’ve also a site-to-site VPN between my locations. In previous logs I was hitting the server over WAN as I purposely had a firewall rule preventing port 32400 from client to server over VPN. Just to remove firewalls as a possibility I have removed that rule for now so you’ll now see LAN addresses in the logs; everything is going over VPN and that’s wide open between subnets. Last failure from 11:49 to 11:53:01 local time (both client/server same timezones). Here’s the first indication of the freeze in client log:

I’ll DM you both full logs.
Lip sync has been broken since they introduced the “new” player. 10 seconds back always resyncs audio. It’s a pain, but I have been living with it. It would be nice if this got fixed once and for all.
This kind of sucks for us, because the only way that we could watch Live TV from a remote Plex Media Server with HDHomeRun Prime was to switch back to the old player.
We have had the issue for a while now, but I didn’t bother to report it because I just thought it would eventually get fixed and start working. Stupid on my part, I know.
I’ve started a new topic on the issue… Live TV from remote Plex Server with HDHomeRun Prime stops after 3 minutes
@mfifield01 Where is this setting found?
