I don’t think the current enhanced version does HDR but I do believe it’s being worked on.
When it’s added to the enhanced player, just try it and decide for yourself…?

Thanks for the replies. I think I will stick to infuse on my ATV4K until it’s sorted out completely then.
The thumbnails are generated by the server.
Apple TV player or experimental Plex player?
I don’t have thumbnails-generating enabled in PMS but can use them with Apple‘s player. All my files are .m4v.
That’s only a problem if the file needs to be transcoded, because the transcoder doesn’t support tone-mapping. If the file can be direct played, the enhanced video player will tone-map it and it will look good.
I think with the ATV Player it’ll generate it own thumbs when playing a supported format (which m4v is).
So 4K HDR should play natively now without transcoding on the server? Last time I tried it things ground to a halt.
It doesn’t play in HDR, but you can set it to do HDR -> SDR which works without transcoding (the video; there might still be audio transcoding since they don’t do lossless to PCM in the enhanced player). @sergiou87 is still working to bring true HDR playback to the enhanced player.
Thanks. That’s great. Until they do lossless audio I’ll have to stick with Infuse.
If it’s in a compatible format yes. I do this now with 4K/HDR/10b/HEVC with the native player in an MKV container.
I did run across an odd bug where I had to turn OFF Match Frame Rate in the Apple TV video settings.
I should also mention that the native Apple TV 4K player will do HDR/4K/HEVC files just fine on an HDR compatible display and HDR looks great.
Unless you have subtitles, then it has to transcode the subtitles and you lose HDR.
Subtitles are not an issue, right now only some audio codecs are (TrueHD mainly)

(it will probably require more work -bugfixing/improvements- but most of it at least is already done)
Awesome thanks! Will test it out shortly and report back.
Anything with TrueHD isn’t triggering HDR on my TV. Anything with DTS-HD MA is playing back fine and triggering HDR on my TV. Do you need logs for that?
@timstephens24 that’s triggering video transcoding because of TrueHD, so that’s probably the issue and the server is killing HDR in that video.
But yeah, please, reproduce the issue and immediately after send me app and server logs just in case!
We’re currently working on a way to avoid these things with TrueHD, so could you also share with me a sample file based on that video please?
Thank you!
Hopefully that work-around is by decoding it to lossless PCM
Thanks, I sent you the logs and a sample file in a PM.
I dont like the fast forward now, I prefer Infuse’s or a Netflix style of it. I preferred the old players FF.
