I have posted my issue to reddit and havent gotten any response:
Anyone having problems with Plex not playing their 4k hdr10 files? None of mine will play. I am on an android tv xiaomi mi box S with the latest Plex player software (7.25.1) and the latest stable server software.
The issue I am having is when it goes to play a 4k HDR movie it says “playback has been stopped because the connection to the Plex Media server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry” but if I try to play the same movie in 1080p it plays fine. Anyone else having issues?
The fix i found is to turn off the new player and all the files will play fine. As soon as I turn on the new player just the 4k HDR files wont play (I dont think its a codec issue as I have over 100 4k files different codecs and bitrates and none will play on the new player, but play perfectly fine on the old player)
I tried to play a 12 mbs file (Spiderman Far from home, 4k HDR10) and it gave me the error. I clicked retry and it started playing the 1080 version of the file. Tried a 10mbs file (Avengers Endgame 4k, HDR10) and it gave me the error again. Went into settings and changed to the older player and tried the 10 mbs file again, worked perfectly.
This time I just tried to play avengers in 4k on the new player, failed. Clicked retry, it played in 1080p. Stopped it, tried again in 4k, error. created the log file from that. Do i need to turn on the old player and get it to play and provide a log?
I’m still having issues in the latest beta for Android, 7.26.0.13385 (b9fdc952). On both my Shield TV 2019 (Tube) and on my OnePlus 7T Pro, so it appears to be a general Android issue.
On the Shield I can disable the new player, and get it working, but that doesn’t appear to an option on my 7T.
It doesn’t matter what resolution/format/transcoding settings i use. Nothing in my library will play on my Android phone, or on my Shield with the new player enabled.
I can try to create a sample file, but if its applying the video bitrate to the audio file, wouldn’t that be a bug that needs to be fixed?
Pretty sure 90% of all my 4k files were ripped the same way. So I do not want to re-encode 100+ 4k movies, especially when the old player plays them fine.
As long as the old player doesn’t get depreciated I am still in working order. There isnt any plans for that, is there?
That depends if the file itself is missing certain information so the app is making a best guess which isn’t working out. A sample would help identify the problem and a fix may be possible.
I have the same issue. Lots of files that play just fine in the old player won’t play in the new one. It will give the same generic error “connection to the media server lost”. I did notice the issue on 4k HDR files but I cannot say for certain only those files are affected.
