New player wont play any 4k HDR files

I have posted my issue to reddit and havent gotten any response:

Anyone having problems with Plex not playing their 4k hdr10 files? None of mine will play. I am on an android tv xiaomi mi box S with the latest Plex player software (7.25.1) and the latest stable server software.

The issue I am having is when it goes to play a 4k HDR movie it says “playback has been stopped because the connection to the Plex Media server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry” but if I try to play the same movie in 1080p it plays fine. Anyone else having issues?

The fix i found is to turn off the new player and all the files will play fine. As soon as I turn on the new player just the 4k HDR files wont play (I dont think its a codec issue as I have over 100 4k files different codecs and bitrates and none will play on the new player, but play perfectly fine on the old player)

Plex does not typically respond on Reddit.

Sounds like playback of 4K is failing somewhere which will result in that error. Can you try again and get me the log from the app?

Thanks for the response!

I am at work now, but will try to get a log later today.

Ok here are my logs:

I tried to play a 12 mbs file (Spiderman Far from home, 4k HDR10) and it gave me the error. I clicked retry and it started playing the 1080 version of the file. Tried a 10mbs file (Avengers Endgame 4k, HDR10) and it gave me the error again. Went into settings and changed to the older player and tried the 10 mbs file again, worked perfectly.

for future reference, you can simply drag/drop or paste the zip file directly into a reply.

I need the log from the app, not PMS. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

Sorry.

This time I just tried to play avengers in 4k on the new player, failed. Clicked retry, it played in 1080p. Stopped it, tried again in 4k, error. created the log file from that. Do i need to turn on the old player and get it to play and provide a log?

Did you fine anything in the logs?

I’m still having issues in the latest beta for Android, 7.26.0.13385 (b9fdc952). On both my Shield TV 2019 (Tube) and on my OnePlus 7T Pro, so it appears to be a general Android issue.

On the Shield I can disable the new player, and get it working, but that doesn’t appear to an option on my 7T.

It doesn’t matter what resolution/format/transcoding settings i use. Nothing in my library will play on my Android phone, or on my Shield with the new player enabled.

Hi !
Same here ! I’m on Xiaomi mi box 3 and 4K movies (HDR and no HDR) not working…

Any update?

I tried testing some 4K files I have on my Shield and 4K Fire TV and I cannot reproduce this issue. I did see in your logs the following:

12-05 19:08:00.157 i: [ExoPlayer][EventLogger] Track:0, id=0, mimeType=video/hevc, bitrate=10525000, codecs=hevc, res=3840x1608, fps=23.976025, supported=YES
12-05 19:08:00.163 i: [ExoPlayer][EventLogger] Track:0, id=1, mimeType=audio/ac3, bitrate=10525000, codecs=ac3, channels=6, sample_rate=48000, language=eng, supported=YES

See how the video bitrate is also being applied to the audio. I think this might be the issue. I wonder if it’s the way you are ripping these. I might need a sample to test. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/

I can try to create a sample file, but if its applying the video bitrate to the audio file, wouldn’t that be a bug that needs to be fixed?

Pretty sure 90% of all my 4k files were ripped the same way. So I do not want to re-encode 100+ 4k movies, especially when the old player plays them fine.

As long as the old player doesn’t get depreciated I am still in working order. There isnt any plans for that, is there?

That depends if the file itself is missing certain information so the app is making a best guess which isn’t working out. A sample would help identify the problem and a fix may be possible.

Ok, I will try to create one tonight when I get home.

I have the same issue. Lots of files that play just fine in the old player won’t play in the new one. It will give the same generic error “connection to the media server lost”. I did notice the issue on 4k HDR files but I cannot say for certain only those files are affected.

Device is a Xiomi Mi Box S, if it helps.

Hi,
Is there an update to this issue? It remains after updating to the latest server and latest Android TV app.
Device : Xiomi Mi Box S

Do you need my logs as well, or are the logs provided above enough?

Thanks.

Finally got around to creating a sample file. See link below:

Any updates, has a bug been flagged and is a fix being worked on?
