Enabling or Disabling hardware encoding does nothing here for me. The playback quality of Plex for Windows is still awful by modern standards.
Can you comment on why playback is so poor with Plex for Windows?

Also, here’s a reddit thread talking about the same thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/ctzc3a/new_plex_for_windows_app_playback_isnt_smooth/
There is something going on here that needs addressing ASAP
Disabling hardware decoding did not change anything
Aware, added here: Plex for Mac and Windows
Thank you!
Does the 1.2.1 preview release improve playback for anyone?
I’m going to give it a whirl this evening - and this won’t be easy without TV Mode (ahem).
I’ll let you know…
Pray tell at your earliest convenience.
Me Meese has just dragged the prisoner, kicking and screaming, to the viewing apparatus… drum roll please…
Well you did ask!
Well, I can tell ya right off the bat it no longer has the hydraulic jerks. I will assume the position for the remainder of the testing session.
I’ll edit…:
-
the mouse cursor stays lit when the OCD goes away.
-
Playback is smooth through all resolutions and 1080p bit rates to 10M. Had to hunt for one of those. On my phone. Ahem.
-
flawless playback with a 1080i MPEG2 @ 8M. 0 artifacts, but my TV happily deinterlaces everything I throw at it.
Enough spot checking. I have a few shows that require the benefit of Windows Audio leveling, so those will be viewed in their enirity.
So far, very good.
I’ve got a good idea what the mouse cursor problem is. I’ll make the associated fixup in our next release.
The remote in the phone app (android) does not control the windows app, at all. Can’t do a thing.
Casting is ok.
Playback seems much better on my end with the latest release. Thanks for your quick updates to resolve these issues.
Just a note that 1.3 released which contains the fixed the mouse cursor snafu and includes the changes previewed in 1.2.1.
Man, it took 3 restarts before the update was triggered.
What’s wrong with the old: Check for Update Button?
It’s Big.
It’s Orange.
It checks for an update - if there isn’t one waiting… and has magical properties 'cause if there is one waiting it changes itself into “Install Update”.
(life used to be so simple)
For sure. Waiting for a couple minutes is hard. The idea is that day to day usage will grab the update naturally. Regardless though, I totally want to get that update button integrated.
- that was a couple of minutes each restart - giving it time to look around…
- I don’t use it day-to-day, but do use it when I need it.
2.1) PMP is still broken - jerky playback - so I do need it when I would be using PMP (still not day-to-day).
2.2) when you show up, in the middle of playing something that ‘just won’t behave’ in some way facilitating the use of the most powerful player I can lay my hands on - I don’t want to be messin’ around waiting for an update… or something…
