New Plex install won't launch

That’s the right one. As for your question – that shouldn’t matter

Ok… so you have downloaded this and run it.
Can you quickly walk me through if there’s been any messages / issues during the installation?

If the install has succeeded – you do have an entry for Plex Media Server in your start menu. When you click on that… will the Plex icon appear in the Windows task tray?

When I go to run it I get an Options and an Install button. Should I do options?

Was Plex Media Server ever installed on this machine before?
If it was, perform this procedure - the cleaning of the registry in particular:

Plex is no longer listed in my programs in the control panel. Do I need to do anything else?

Please read the article I linked.

I did but dont know how to access the registry? Path?

ok got it!! What’s next? Thanks so much!

Now download and install the server https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/
If, after the installation has finished, it opens a web page in Microsoft Edge
copy the address form the address bar and paste it into Chrome or Firefox.

All the files loaded but nothing opened. :frowning: This is what happens every time!!

Installed the server and nothing then checked registry and all that is there is Default and Language Setup , Thanks

Are there any log files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs ?

I dont see any in my c drive. Is that where they would be?

%LOCALAPPDATA% is a pointer to a hidden folder in your user folder, which usually sits on drive C, yes.
It is in this path:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server

Please copy the whole string %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs and paste it into the address bar of the Windows file explorer and press Enter. It will take you directly there.
Otherwise you’d have to enable the display of ‘hidden folders’ first, to see it.

copy and pasted the entire string and did a search in all drives including c and externals and nothing came up.

Could they be located in AppData\Local\Temp? I see a BUNCH or Plex MEdia Server text files there

Save those, zip them up and PM them to me. (If the zip is only a few megabytes)

Your logs are telling me, that you have attempted to install Plex server to the root folder of drive J:
Don’t do that.

Uninstall it.
Then re-install it and after starting the installation .exe click on ‘Options’ and verify that it points to C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\
If it doesn’t, paste the correct path into there.

The Plex program folder is only 155 MB large.
What you probably want to do, is to move the Plex data folder to drive J:
but let’s do that later, after Plex server is up and running.

ok now it is ready to launch

So it didnt work again so I cut and pasted all the Plex folder and pasted to my J drive and it is working now!! THANKS SOOOO MUCH!
