New Plex installation on Synology DS1821+ running DSM 7 , keep getting Not authorized You do not have access to this server

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409-7000
Player Version#:

I have done a fresh installation of PLEX server, followed all instructions, provided authorization to PlexMediaServer to the media folder. Yet at every attempt to start Plex I get the message : Not authorized You do not have access to this server.

I have also tried using directly the URL http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web to no avail.

The Synology server IP address is 192.1.1.7
The PC IP address is 192.1.1.184

Please find attached the Logs.zip file

Thanks for helping out
Logs.zip (125.9 KB)

192.1.1.7 is not an RFC-1918 compliant address.

RFC-1918 uses -

192.168.x.x,
10.x.x.x
172.16.x.x → 172.31.x.x

The server is treating you as “remote”.
Default security prevents the server from being claimed by a remote (non-LAN) host.

  1. Is your computer on the same 10.1.1 subnet with the machines?
  2. Are you using QuickConnect.to link? (don’t do that)

After claiming with the Plex Token, caching sometimes gets in the way, especially when moving a server between hosts. Did you open it by IP address directly?

I will ask, Did you move from DSM 7 → DSM 7 and, if so, how you did that?

Yeah, that’s where I was heading as soon as I posted Since I am running vlans.

Thanks a lot for the prompt answer, I will try that next weekend as this entails changing the IP addresses on many devices. I will update you once it is done. Cheers

Still having the same issues when trying to claim the server.
Browser IP : 10.1.1.50
Plex Server: 10.1.1.120

I went directly to http://10.1.1.120:32400

Yes, it was a DSM7 → DSM7.
I rsynced my collection and then installed Plex on the new DSM 7.
I’ve done this with both the old Plex instance up and down.

Ok, here is what I did to get my new install to show and be claimable.

  1. Installed the beta version that is included in the DSM7 Package Center.
  2. Shut it down before going to the URL/IP
  3. Loaded browser on same subnet
  4. Navigated to http://hostname:32400/web/

At this point it show up as unclaimed and I was able to login to to my plex and claim it.
Now both the old and new are showing up for me and I am able to add libraries to the new instance.

Hope this helps someone else out there that’s running in to the unable to create libraries/Unauthorized/Unclaimable server.

Thanks to Chuck for giving me some things to think about while working through the issue.

Final Step -

Install the production release of PMS from plex.tv/downloads

Never use the beta package again – It’s not compatible. (different storage location)

Proceeded with changing the IP addresses, all works nicely now. Thanks a ton
