I’ve encountered a few issues with the new Plex app.
- When I’m watching content on the app and I’m at the edge of my WiFi signal as I frequently am when cooking or putting the baby to sleep, it frequently cuts out and instead of buffering throws me back to some random earlier point in the media. Sometimes I’m sent to the beginning, sometimes it’s like 47.5 minutes in. If I don’t close the app, switch to data, then open it again, it may keep doing that or time out.
- Speaking of timing out- when I have an issue or I pause the content and put my phone in my pocket for a bit, I’ll come back to a timeout issue where it won’t resume playing unless I close the app, clear it from my cache, and relaunch it again. Very inconvenient and frustrating.
- If I get a call when I’m watching something, the show “pauses,” but not really. When I finish the call, instead of auto-resuming where it left off, either the video or the audio (or both) will do this very annoying fast-forward as if it were playing in the background that whole time. I have to pause and play the content at least 3-4 times before it syncs back up, scrub back a few seconds/minutes, or just close the app altogether.
- Others have mentioned the awful UI/UX, which I’m in agreement (why make a browse tab??? I can’t just see all of my content at once! Same for the Plex Amp app - useful, but it took me a while to find my audiobooks and other audio folders), but the clickable screen area surely can’t be that small by choice? When I go to pause and then clear my screen, I have the smallest little area to tap on at the top! The UI is way too big and doesn’t allow me many options to dismiss it. And when I have a really long title like in a home movie, my whole screen is eaten up.
- One of the things I enjoyed doing with the old app was watching something Picture in Picture, but also being able to browse through the rest of my media. Now if I want to use PiP, I’m forced out of the app, or I have to stop my media. That’s silly.
Plex, please fix your app, stop enabling weird features by default, and hiding useful tools in sub-menus or on the web. As a relatively new PlexPass holder, this isn’t what I paid for!
