New Android App Bugs

I wanted to like the new app. I avoided reading other posts complaining about it, and I gave it a few days before resorting to this. My tablet experience with plex up to this point was never 100% satisfying. I run on an older tablet, but the worst problem I had was a crash every week or so. Not really a big deal. This app on the other hand, is way WAY worse.

  • Constant “Something is not right” messages, forcing me to force-close the app.
  • Any interruption in connectivity at all, forces me to force-close the app. The old app would just try again a few times, at worst I would have to restart the playback of the content.
  • Not a SINGLE media file will play all the way through. The player just randomly restarts playback where you started playback from. For example, if I resume playback at 5 minutes in, the app will randomly rewind from 25 minutes in to 5 minutes in, never progressing past the 25 minute mark. This is random but very predictable. This even happens on downloaded content!
  • Navigation between pages TAKES FOREVER. The load time is WAY to high. I should not have to wait 10 seconds to go back a screen!
  • Long press menu option on the home screen (which I most commonly use to jump to an episodes show page) no longer works. The menu opens briefly with a spinner, then closes on its own.
  • Continue watching next episode button no longer works
  • Repeatedly skipping forward or backward using +30 -10 buttons causes playback to pause, even if they were pressed while the content was playing
  • After a buffering event, video does not resume playing. It remains paused.
  • After stopping playback, watch progress no longer is auto updated, so if you tap resume right away, you will continue from your old position in the file. You have to go back, then pull down to refresh the screen, then you can tap on the item, and resume playback.
  • Download button missing on seasons, download feature keep x number of unplayed episodes missing.
  • Sometimes just keeping a video paused too long causes the app to display the message “Something is not right” and force me to force-close the app.
  • Tapping an empty section of the control overlay used to dismiss it right away, now I have to wait for it to timeout.
  • Control overlay is HUGE on my foldable, covers the entire screen. No part of the video is left uncovered.

Honestly the list I provided is only the worst issues. How in the world did this ever get to production? It is nowhere near ready!

I also addressed some issues right away just from using it for couple of minutes before I try to watch something. And if me the customer/user can notice that with just the first touch/look it’s obvious that something is really wrong. :recycling_symbol:

Exactly, and to be honest its how Plex leadership is handling these complaints that is most frustrating. There should be an acknowledgment of the issues and an apology for pushing it out prematurely. Instead, we get silence, posts getting deleted, and threats to ban users from the forums for demanding accountability from the ceo. Its all very sad and disheartening.
