I’ve been using Plex for years and appreciated the ability to control a headless mac mini as a server using my smart phone; however the most recent upgrade to the iOS app broke that ability - requiring an upgrade to PMS that also required a newer Mac OSX version (I was happy running Lion).
Plex “support” said they had to “move forward” and were unsympathetic to my suggestion they allow people to continue to use older “legacy” apps and devices - that worked perfectly and with which they were satisfied.
So after much angst I upgraded my perfectly serviceable older device, updated Mac OSX and recreated my Plex Libraries.
Video - great
Photos - check
Music? ----------------------Nope!
So now after all this time, effort and angst - I am left with an entire music library I can’t access. Thanks Plex - great work!
I’m posting here hoping someone has the same problem and can suggest a solution.
Set up:
Mac Mini Core 2 Duo
Mac OSC 10.10.5
Plex Media Server 1.13.9.5456-ecd600442
Can you explain what you mean by “Nope”? Is it you can’t create the music library, or it’s there, but you can’t access it, or you can access it but nothing will play?
That won’t work since iTunes doesn’t allow rolling back apps. And sideloading apps on iOS devices is a pain. iTunes also doesn’t allow 2 versions of the same app so we can’t just allow the old app to exist.
I can confirm there is an outgoing problem with Music on Plex. There is some music that cannot be accessed and if it is accessible, you cannot easily get metadata information regarding that music. I am not sure if Plex is in the process of changing how music behavior works.
This has been a problem is introducing PLEX Web Shows in a recent update.
No except for the one I’ve posted about metadata missing and there are times when music is not seen by Plex. On a Mac, it could be because of the permissions on Mac which then has fixed the issue. Sometimes, especially if you use an external hard drive, permissions aren’t given for certain music files.
It’s a theory of what’s going on. It’s understandable that it’s not a Plex issue. What is a Plex issue is how music is handled on Plex. There’s too many issues and processes to handle even a small library.
music refuses to load into the library. It is “there” as in exists on the HDD to which I point Plex - but Plex says there’s nothing in my Plex music library.
As I’ve stated before, there is a clear problem with Music and Plex. These might be isolated problems, but problems nonetheless. @jtspringer91 's Plex Library does not see music. My library sees music, but it does update music metatdata. This started with the addition of Web Shows. As a team member, you have a duty to attend to this issue with Music and Plex as @jtspringer91 and myself are Plex Pass subscribers; we contribute to the Plex community. Thank you in advance, @anon18523487 for your attention to this issue with Music.
