Hello Forum,
Im new to the Plex tools and servers. I have a plex server installed on my truenas server to serve my media files to only my internal network. I have not used my account to claimed my internal server. What Im wanting is only local access and dont want any data transported back to the plex servers or be able to watch things while outside my local network. Basically preferring to stay more anonymous. I have a windows7 machine and Ruko that are wired and work just fine playing from my media server, however all of my android based wifi devices cant access the plex server. Phones and chromebooks. Basically I dont see my internal server from the wifi devices. I can see the plex servers and play their content, but nothing from the local server on the same subnet. Is this a limitation or hopefully just a setup or wifi device configuration issue.
Is your WLAN AP creating its own subnet inside your home network?
This can happen if you configure the AP to run its own DHCP instead of working in bridge mode.
Plex clients can only see the server locally if they’re in the same network.
To answer your question, no. I have a current version Unifi software running the wireless access points and USG. There is a single dhcp server for the entire subnet and all the wifi devices are running on the same subnet as the wired devices and the plex server.
Can the ubiquiti unifi access points (the old original ones) be some how blocking the ports for Plex? Or does Unifi require extra setup for Plex?
To maybe explain the issue better on the plex page for my local server, on the left hand pane at the bottom is says more. When clicking it, Im shown the stuff my local plex server has available.
On my phone when I go to home, and then more at the bottom, I get the image below.
From there if I click on the plex icon I cant get it to expand or do anything.
Is this normal behavior for what is basically a server that has not been claimed?
