I have a double Nat Set up, and my remote access has been red and yet my friends have accessed my Plex for well over a year with my content being transcoded to them. I am told I need a static IP to have them access my server without being transcoded, I am aware of this.
I recently changed my email and all of a sudden no one could access my server, I tried re-inviting them to know avail.
I decided ok let me start over (which i have done now twice). Each time when i created a new Plex account and re-installed the Plex Server software (after deleting it) I had difficulty finding or setting up my new server. Finally using the software set up on my PC (not through the web) I would get the software to set up my server. Each time i would do so, he would re-set up the server (same name) of the Account i closed. Including the second time where i tried my best to delete any reference to plex (files) on my pc. The second time i was actually able (on the web) to add my categories (Movies, TV Shows etc), it still brought up my server from the dead account.
I have invited friends, my account shows they have access and yet everytime they try and use my Plex it says i am unavailable. They likely were removed from my now deleted account as i was trying everything to get it up and running.
I thought for sure once the second time, where it seemed i was setting up a server from scratch i would have no issues, but once again it was my dead server (same name, same content) that appeared.
I understand i have the double nat situation to deal with but at this point id be happy for them to get the transcoded content. I cant seem to find the right info to re-set my server under my present account, the info online always seems to reference something that simply doesn’t show up on my account. I am using the most recent version of the software.
It was not wise to create a new account. Doing so doesn’t help with remote access, nor anything else.
If you have set up a new plex account, the login data of the old account might still be lurking in the Windows registry.
You need to remove the old login data and claim your server into your new account.
I wasnt sure if i saved it properly as a reg file, online it said just change it in “save as”. So instead of Windows Registry Editor Version 5.0 i made it Windows Registry Editor Version 5.0.reg
I then double clicked on it and followed the prompts. It said it was added. I restarted plex (after clearing my cache), tried this twice. My server was still up on my plex…
The first time i did it my server came right up. I did it again and it re-initialized my server, but otherwise brought up the same server without asking me to “se it up”, it did remove anyone who had access. I cannot contact anyone to see if they can access it yet but im pretty sure this is where i was before with no luck.
What i did was remove the server from my authorized devices, uninstalled plex from my computer then copied the registry file and followed the process. reinstalled the Plex server, initialized it and reinvited some friends.
Isnt it supposed to ask me to set up the server (ie movies, Tv shows etc…) ?
No, as it still uses the libraries you had created before. Because you never deleted the Plex data folder. I was assuming that you prefer to keep these, instead of having to set them up all over again.
Since you are using a wholy different account, you will have to invite them all again.
And they’ll have to accept the invitation, before they can access anything on your server.
The best place to do that is to
i did i reinvited two people, they are still getting messages that my server (DOCE) is unavailable. Ive been running a server for like 2 years this is so frustrating… whats going on now?
I think you should first verify that your server is remotely accessible before inviting people.
It appears you have scrapped your server yet again. And it hasn’t been made accessible remotely yet. The Basics of Remote Access Troubleshooting
Don’t expect a newly created server to be available instantly. It first needs to get a subdomain, which then needs to propagate across the DNS system, before remote users can contact your server.
ok so it should take time to set up? I wasnt aware. My servers have always said they werent accessible outside the network due to the double nat but people were always able to access it via transcoding through Plex. I simply want to get back to that point before i try and address the double nat
So after this sytem takes its time my friends should gain access via transcoding and i can go about getting a static IP set up for the double nat? I hope so. TY for all your help
Im still a bit of a noob so if im not catching something i apologize, i sometimes have disability issues when i read instructions and cant clarify all the gist. Anything you can recommend that i need to still do to enable my friends to access my content simply via transcoding? Do i need to change any ports or port forward or anything else or is it just a matter of now waiting for the server to propogate
