Newb needs help

I just had a new pc made for me and during the transition was having problems with my Plex server so i decided to create a new one. I just set it up, invited my brother. And he is able to log in and see my server name, but it always says unavailable as far as my libraries go (I only have one right now). I had some difficulties back with my old system (double nat? i had a static IP for awhile), i was able to run my old server (it would say unavailable outside, but it was available, just everything would be transcoded (not the actual quality), and yet everyone was ok with it.

I have tried with and without my VPN, I have tried with and without a specific manually specified port. One time while testing my brother actually saw my library but no other time. Help would be appreciated…

Im thinking something isnt set up right. Instead of logging in and seeing my server at the top of the sceen, i have to click “more” for my server to be listed, as i did when accessing someone elses server…

Did you already have a look at the related troubleshooting support article?

There’s also a guide with some more details on how to troubleshoot remote access issues. The individual findings should help to pin down what’s causing this for you (given there can be many culprits). We would need those details to help you further.

As for having to navigate to More in order to access your library… simply pin the library from More and it’ll show up in the main navigation/sidebar.
Here’s an example of how this can be done in Plex Web. The approach is the same or similar in other Plex apps.

Looks like you’re on a CG-NAT network, which places the server in a double-NAT situation.

Ask your ISP about a public, static IP address.

After months of help here on the forum, and going through my IP I actually resolved the double nat situation and things were great and then my IP basically changed my IP address by mistake and made a mess i never came back from. the last time i was able to set it up and people accessed server even though it said not available outside (and pretty sure i didnt do anything with the router set up), BUT they received everything transcoded, which they were ok with. I would be happy just to get back to there.

Accessing a server through Plex Relay

The stream is tunneled through a server at Plex. Limited to 2 Mbps, so pretty much everything will transcode.

Enabled in Settings → Network.

Ok problem solved… Turns out even i couldnt watch my server on my tv (i had to re-link it due to the new server). Once i did that i had my brother re-try. If i have my VPN on he cant access my server, once i disable the VPN he could. This wont be an issue as soon ill be doing my downloading (and VPN) on a different PC then my server will be located on.
