So my server is not available outside my network and for the life of me I cannot figure out what is going on. I tried to follow the Remote Access Troubleshooting Guide and that didn’t help.
The error it is giving me is: “Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network. Tip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this “Double-NAT” scenario.”
I checked my firewall: Plex media server is not blocked. I have had the same network setup for over a year - and never had this issue before - but in any case I know it’s NOT a “Double-NAT” scenario because I did plug it directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and it didn’t work. I connected over WiFi (that’s how I initially set up my server when I first started) and that didn’t work either. I setup port forwarding even though I didn’t have to back then, and that didn’t fix the issue. I had UPnP enabled, so that seemed to work automatically without port forwarding setup, but either way setting up did not fix the issue. I also did double check that there isn’t in fact a legit Double-NAT scenario happening by looking at the IP address when going to Google. I also enabled DMZ at some point to check if my router’s firewall is blocking the server but that isn’t the case either. I haven’t checked with my ISP if they happened to block the Plex server, mainly because I’m renting and it’s not my service so I don’t want to bother the landlord. (Although personally I doubt it is the ISP that blocked it).
I had backups of my server and tried those, but it seems like the issue was still there. After exhausting all my options I decided to simply delete my server with all its data and start a new one. I am still getting the same issue lol
Yes my Plex Media Server is up to date. I uninstalled and installed the latest version several times before deleting my first server. Not sure what on earth is going on and I’m not too well versed in networking to investigate further/dig deeper.
I’m willing to try again with specific instructions to know for sure whether or not we can disregard something as a potential problem. I don’t have my old logs and I’m not sure my current logs would be helpful, but I can provide that if necessary. (Keep in mind I started fresh with a new server).
My current network setup is: Bell Home Hub 3000 (in Canada) → Ethernet connects to tp-link AC-1200 Whole Home Mesh WiFi System → Ethernet from tp-link connects to tp-link power adapter → Other tp-link ethernet power adapter connects to my laptop.
This network setup worked with no issues at all for a very long time - and as I said before I even tried directly plugging my laptop to my Home Hub 3000 which didn’t solve the alleged “Double-NAT” issue.
However, if it makes things easier I can try to troubleshoot while having my laptop connected to the Home Hub 3000 directly.
At this point I suspect it is something to do with my laptop, not Plex/router. But I’m not sure how I’d be able to fix it (or what to fix in the first place).
I hope all this detail helps narrow things down instead of complicating things! Thanks in advance! Any input would be helpful!
EDIT: It should also be mentioned that this issue instantly popped up once I downloaded the Plex app on my laptop. I only had the Plex media server on my laptop and accessed it through the web and mostly used Plex on my TV. I decided to download the Windows App on my laptop and this somehow messed things up, not sure how.
