New Plex TV Series Agent keeps confusing one show for another (Even when using IDs to search)

Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#: 4.71.0

Dear Plex Team,

I have been using plex for a year now and have been enjoying it a lot. However, thanks to some server issues I had to temporarily stop using it right around the time the new plex tv-series scanner was introduced. It works great now that I’ve set it back up properly… except for the fact that it does separate between two series properly.

I have a series called Doraemon Gadget Cat from The Future (Doraemon: Gadget Cat from the Future - TheTVDB.com) on there and the new scanner just refuses to match it properly. It keeps assuming it’s (ドラえもん (2005) - TheTVDB.com).

This would be fine if I could just use the tvdb ID directly to search it up. So I quickly searched up how to do that with the new scanner (which I used this page for Migrating a TV library to use the new Plex TV Series Agent/Scanner | Plex Support) and all seemed great!

So I searched tvdb-283630 which is the ID of the 2014 series and it still directs me to the 2005 series! Is this a bug? You’d expect for it to override any grouping the scanner does and go directly to the specific series the ID specifies but it still gives me the wrong show! if anything please fix that so that not only this case but any future case of this is fixed

Now I’m forced to use the old scanner with just the TVDB which would be fine but I do imagine it’ll be phased out soon.

With kind regards,
Max

Put the TVDB ID in braces like this ‘Doraemon Gadget Cat from The Future {tvdb-283630}’ and if that doesn’t work then force match the series.

Make sure you un-match it after renaming and before scanning.

Hi,

Sadly the brackets strategy doesn’t work. How do I force match the series?

With kind regards,
Max

If you click the 3 dots when you hover over the poster it will bring up a menu to Fix Match or Unmatch. If you did not unmatch it this way before renaming/scanning then it will not update.

If all else fails then select Fix Match.

Ah you see I was using that menu to match it.

So in other words the force match straight up did not match it properly at all.

The show is probably missing from the Plex backend if it doesn’t show up at all while manually searching.

Thanks for your help. It really sucks that it didn’t work but I do hope plex will fix this.

I think it’s probably searching the movie database instead of the tvdb. Mainly since I tend to only see these three shows (doraemon — The Movie Database (TMDB)) with only one result from the tvdb.

The Plex server doesn’t pull directly from thetvdb anymore. It pulls from an intermediate server that handles all the metadata the way I understand it. A Plex employee would have to pull the data and then it would be available. I’m not sure who exactly would be able to do this.

Looking into this one.

It’s a bit tricky as they are technically the same show, one is just a censored English-dubbed version and neither IMDb or TMDB list it as a separate show. And because both the TVDB pages link to the same IMDb we only expose the one, original, show.

I have brought this up with the team and we’ll see what we can do to get both listed on our end.

Hi,
Thank you! Glad to hear it’s forwarded to the team (and to know why the issue arises).

Hope to see it resolved soon and thanks for all the great work you and your team put into the software.

Think you could give a heads up when it’s fixed?

With kind regards,
Max
