With the semi-recent new Plex UI update, clients with grid-based collection view lag the app the more items are in the collection. My hypothesis is that for some reason plex finds the need to load every item in said collection (title and poster) at the same time, leading to extreme lag (and even app-crashes) until it’s done. This has made some collections very difficult to browse on my phone, as some of my collections have many items in them.
Plex for AndroidTV updated for me today, and added the grid-view back to collections, which is great! However, the lag that I found on mobile was also there.
Before the new UI update, browsing collections was perfectly fine, with the items in them loading as you scrolled down. But again, now they’re very laggy, and very difficult to use if you have enough items. This doesn’t seem to have effected the WebUI.
Browsing the library with ALL movies does not have the same lagging effect, only collections.
When you have a large collection it crashes the plex app when trying to load that collection. on certain devices it does anyway, like the android tv app.
Wherein Staff suggests that’s exactly what ur supposed to do instead of having ‘Genre Libraries’…
Seems silly users are doing all sorts of stuff not in The Plex Employee Handbook - and I suggest they publish that handbook so we’ll know exactly how we’re supposed to use Plex <— exactly like The Developers do… so we’ll all be on the same page.
Unless you try to use your Roku to Drill For Westerns and it takes 31 Clicks. Right there is where my Genre Collections were born. Not sure what triggered the “Poor Use of Collections” for others, but that pretty much did it for me.
We have already discussed that your particular size of collection and use is very atypical. Please stop picking and choosing comments myself and other employees have made out of context
There’s an entire subset of the community that uses them in that fashion. https://reddit.com/r/PlexPosters and https://theposterdb.com. I have many unique collections that are not available as genre tags, but some are unusable on any platform besides desktop. Is that really seen as acceptable? That’s extremely disappointing if so… Especially given the amount of time I’ve put into my collections.
