This has always been an option but it does kind of defeat the point of the SmartTV App that Plex Publishes.
It feels like Plex is only providing an app because then they can say that they support x number of TV manufacturers, not because they are providing a quality product to those manufacturers (or indeed customers as I guess the manufacturer doesn’t really care).
I would guess that the majority of the people using the App dont even know that its rubbish and they they would get a better player if they bought a different brand of TV.
