New PLEX version for Panasonic - When?

Or if you still want to use Plex, get a stand alone streamer such as a FireTV, Apple TV, or Roku.

This has always been an option but it does kind of defeat the point of the SmartTV App that Plex Publishes.

It feels like Plex is only providing an app because then they can say that they support x number of TV manufacturers, not because they are providing a quality product to those manufacturers (or indeed customers as I guess the manufacturer doesn’t really care).

I would guess that the majority of the people using the App dont even know that its rubbish and they they would get a better player if they bought a different brand of TV.

Hi there,

Indeed it’s very painful not to see anything moving on panasonic side. Especially when you know there is new update every week for Plex media player on PC or PS4. There is the exact audio issue since the last update on PS4 (stereo only) so now I have no choice to watch movies in stereo.

There is already plex’s staff working to fix it. Why is it so fast ? If Panasonic TVs are not your priority, at least you could fix this audio issue wich last since more than a year now.

You can check the link below to see the thread regarding the ps4 :

Now I’m planning to buy a desktop PC to plug on the Panasonic TV to at last get a full Plex experience. But this is very expensive just to get the best and always up to date version of Plex.
(I thought about paying for Nvidia Shield but regarding my needs, a PC will be more useful).

Regards.

Absolutely 100% agree. I was talking about this awhile back, they are trying to support too many platforms at once and do too much. They need to release on certain platforms and focus on them and make them good quality, not just throw it out there every where just to have it on a bunch of platforms but have the app be bad quality and not be functional. Then move onto more platforms as the quality of the software becomes better.

I use my mobile and cast it to my TV, with a Chrome cast. You don’t need to by a new PC. HTH

Hello Johnny. I wil try that. But I’m willing to buy a new PC anyway and in fact I moved my actual PC from my bedroom to my living room for testing. I was planing to leave it here 4 days but the Plex experience his so good that I will leave it until I buy a second one that will be like an ā€œupgradedā€ media player to play games, Plex etc…

Now I can enjoy : )

I noticed some stuttering issue on my 4K movies but this is another story (VLC plays these pretty smoothly though) so I have to set the configuration a little bit more to have it perfect.

Take care.

I noticed my LG TVs got a new version.

As for the idea about Chromecast, I’ve got a Chromecast Ultra and it won’t do Dolby digital.

Is there any news on a beta?

Bumping so this thread doesn’t disappear.

I am looking for an update to the Plex app or a beta to test on my 2019 GZ1000/950 OLED.

Current Plex app transcodes my 4k to 1080p as well.

Any more news?

Sorry to say but the official reply because of the lack of one is…go whistle.

As an alternative to a full-blown computer or an NVIDIA Shield, an Apple TV 4K also does a stellar job with Plex. I’ve just bought a Panasonic GZ2000B which was selected the best consumer TV of 2019. The picture quality is just breathtaking, superior to my old LG E7 OLED, but the Plex client app is woefully inferior to the LG version. The native Plex app is hopelessly outdated and struggling to play anything above 720p, so I plugged in my Apple TV 4K with Infuse and connected to my Plex server using Infuse. The Infuse app on Apple TV is a flawless media streaming client and can play any file format I throw at it, without breaking a sweat. It’s a shame we have to invest in additional hardware to be able to enjoy Plex with our Panasonic TVs, but I’m not holding my breath waiting for Plex developers to fix this.

Hi Plex Devs,
i’ve just bought the brand new 2019 Panasonic TX-65GZ1500 Dolby Atmos and all fancy things

and guess what ?
i’m disapointed to see that the Plex client on the TV ,

need to transcode my UHD 4K files to 1080p ;-(

please provide a new App to fix that.

Thanks

Per the post quoted below, it looks like Plex will no longer be supporting a Plex app on Panasonic televisions:

The following was announced here: Plex for Smart TVs & TiVo - #106 by markus101

(Scroll down to ā€œNo Longer Support TVsā€ in the link above, where you will see Panasonic listed as ā€˜no longer supported’.)

Shame really that something that is so simple can’t be fixed and now won’t be, I guess that should be a warning to all those who think about using plex in the future.

I got a 65" GZ1000 OLED TV this week and I’ve tried playing UltraHD content (Demo’s) and Plex chokes on anything with a higher bitrate than 50Mbps regardless of the codec (eg HEVC or H.264). Im not using WiFi either, Im using Gigabit Ethernet.

I also cant play anything with DTS audio without disabling the DTS audio option in the Plex Settings.

The UI is ancient too which is very disappointing - I cant even rearrange the order of the media sections.

Abandoning one of the best TV’s in existence is very dissapointing!

Also just bought an TX-55GZW1004 would love to see an update with just the simple TLS/Secure connection functionality and 4K support. Is it possible to help with development?

Agreed about the Panasonic 75FX780 SmartTV . Also the Plex client doesn’t show collections. Or Photo Albums, treating them as playlists.

Officially Plex has stopped supporting Panasonic TVs.

Back in the days before Plex briefly supported Panasonic TVs ClosestStorm came up with this method that you might be able to hack around with to make work with 4k, DTS, The New UI and all that Jazz

My TV Panasonic 40DXR600 does not support the specified ClosestStorm method - LifeShow Player NO in applications! What should I do if Plex stopped supporting the client for Panasonic
TV?

Nothing.
