New Router, Now PLEX Will Not Connect

What are these routers? Please tell is the make/model of both the old and new router. This will be a big help if someone needs to help you find a setting on the router interface.

Also, did you buy the new router yourself at a store, or was it provided by your ISP? These posts seem to often lead back to ISP-provided routers.

The FireStick is brand new - never had a connection or Plex on it before.

Single router - upgraded from Asus RT-88U (AC3100) to the new Asus ROG Rapture (GT-AX11000).

The wireless connection from the OLED to the router is fine. All other streaming services are fine.

Ok, again, I uninstalled EVERYTHING clean - wiped everything out. Reset the wireless so it was no longer Tri-band SmartConnect, but 3 distinct connections. TV connected fine. Uninstalled Plex from the TV, reinstalled Plex on the computer and then the TV. Both saw the newly named server.

AGAIN the same freaking messages!!!

I was going to get the Netgear Nighthawk because it natively supports Plex from the router itself, but their support is only for 90 days and I said to heck with that! I’ll never buy electronics with garbage support like that.

Wild guess but could QoS or the AiProtection be a factor? Is it possible to disable them on the router, restart plex and see if it helps the situation?

EVERYTHING is disabled on the router.

Just tried to install Plex on my phone and it says Server is OFFLINE.

Was reading this doc

and there is a post about WAN connection dropping and a setting change from aggressive to normal. Might be worth a look.

ok, will try the Normal mode.

Nothing. Switched back to the older router, uninstalled, reinstalled, now no problems.

Contacted ASUS about it and they’ve requested i send them in some info so that they can test the app in-house. It’s going back for now. Maybe if they provide a response that they “fixed” the issue, I might get it again.

Wasted 2 days :frowning:

OKay, if nothing else you can now be confident its something with the new GT-AX11000 router. Some setting, god knows where must be causing an issue. I’ve a Nighthawk X6 so I’m not familar with the ASUS configuration.

Hope you get it resolved, nothing worse than having shinny new tech that you cannot use.

I probably would have gotten the Nighthawk, but not with only 3 months of support and them wanting $140 a year for support. I will never support a company like that.

Game IPS enabled?

No extras enabled whatsoever.

DNS Rebind Protection is probably enabled on the stock firmware. Try setting the client DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Hmmm, never heard of that.

Maybe I’ll try it tomorrow.

DNS Rebind Protection is documented in the Plex support pages.

Nope, tried changing it to 8.8.8.8/8.4.4.8 and no difference.

On your client or on the router?

On the router.
