New Samsung Tizen App Preview

Samsung UE50MU6120, playing from PMS on Nvidia Shield.

Plays h.264/AAC movies just fine (but transcoded - see log).

But buffers like crazy for anything recorded from DVR (UK). Tried an SD/MP2 recording and it took a whole minute of “Buffering” before it played.

Plex Media Server.log (306.2 KB)

got that same problem as well

Agreed. Still I have been testing it for the last few days and apart from the navigation and sort order I have no complains atm.

Can confirm this as well.

Another thing I noticed is that the filter for a specific library gets reset each time I switch from one library to another. For example in the previous version I had a library configured to list only Animation content for fast access and now it’s always set to “All” content, meaning that I have to click a few times in order to get the filtered content back.

Not a deal breaker but really liked that option to “stick” if possible.

tnx again for a great update and grid view for live tv!

Been using this as my main player for a few days, no issues so far

Another other UK testers here, especially any with Plex DVR recordings?

trying the tizen-preview on Samsung Qe55q90ratxxu, firmware 1356.2 and it recognises my account but says my servers unreachable or offline.
this is not the case, it was connected before the preview and when exiting, it reconnects just fine.

Therefore i believe the error is in the new version. i have tried twice now with the same error.

My server is on Win 10, version 1909 and updated to 2004. no difference in the results.

plex version on tv 5.0.9
platform version 5
device resolution 1920x1080

I love it,
Still i have some feedback about it:

1 feedback sounds are on every time i open the app

2 the screen is black when i return from the screensaver

  1. No chapter selection yet I guess?

Client version 5.0.9
Platform version 4

One thing I noticed today on the Early Access app, the new app does not advertise as a “companion payer” to the Alexa app. When I ask Alexa to change the default player, she says there are no players on my network. If I leave early access, Alexa lists my Samsung TV as an option to set it to.

I know many people probably don’t use Alexa, it’s always worked great for me. Just thought I would add a heads up.

Check your security settings in the app. Like allowing insecure connections when server is on the same network.

that’s sorted it, didn’t realise this had changed from my original setting.

was “preferred on same network” and changed to “never”.

thx

Even with a brand new 32" it’s not possible to use. At least in the Netherlands this small models are only in FHD. So no modern Plex app in the bedroom.

Would love to see this back, I miss it very much.

The guide LOOKS great… but I can’t get any Live TV to play in the new app. It just buffers endlessly.

Live TV works fine in the old app. When I Leave Early Access, and go back to the old version- I can play live TV without any problem.

Samsung 75" Q6D, I think the model number is QN75Q60RAFXZA. Running app 5.0.9, Plex server version 1.19.4.2935- up to date as of this post. HDHomeRun Dual tuner.

I’ve now been using the preview for almost a week as my daily runner but tonight I noticed another small UI issue:

Collections in my main movie library are showing the “not played” icon in the top right even when all the movies in that collection have been played.

UA43MU7000, Tizen 3, Client 5.0.9

  1. Interface looks bland (no backgrounds, that being said themes would be nice aside from the normal orange for that matter)

  2. Feedback tone settings are buggy, I turn it off but sometimes I still hear it.

  3. It shows ‘Platform version 3’ rather than Tizen 3 like it did before (more informative with full version information)

  4. Not all subtitle colours are present (There was an option for grey as an example)

  5. Device Resolution is displayed as 1920x1080 and I can’t change it (this is in the ‘about’ section) and this makes no sense as I have a 4K panel

  6. Missing theme song music for tv shows

I haven’t even played anything yet but if I notice anything else I’ll let you guys know.

Ok so more feedback…I actually prefer the old interface where when you go into an episode in your dashboard/dock it shows all relevant information for that episode and shows the rest of the season information below that.

When playing media it shows progress bar with current play time and media length whereas old interface showed you the actual end time when the episode/movie would end.

So far, TV guide, skip intro good, interface bad :persevere:

Lol! I’m guessing the interface is something they’ll work on once they have functionality sorted out and I’m ok with that.

So on that note I just had a ‘bug’…was watching a mkv file and got a call, paused and the call went on for a bit till screensaver kicked in (which [for now?] seems to be random images or random images presumably from your media?) …anyway once call was done I tried to resume media, I got audio but no picture. I tried rewinding but still no picture, had to stop play and then resume to watch the show from where I left off.
