New Search appears to still be limited to 30 results

Continuing the discussion from New Search Release:

PLex Web Version 4.115.2

My searches still limit results to 30 results in each category in Plex Web. In Music, for example, using Advanced Filters for “Title include ‘the’,” I get 774 results (in one library). The Search gives only 30 tracks from 2 combined Music libraries. I see similar results for photos and TV.

Plex for Android TV 9.31.0.3817 (nVidia Shield) seems to be limited to 8 results.

Please pardon what may seem like a basic question, but have you fully refreshed your app.plex.tv browser tab since this announcement was made (I cleared cache/closed and reopened mine)? I needed to to see the referenced changes. Just searching my library for a single artist now shows their artist page, all their albums, and all their tracks in the music category results (after clicking the “View More Results” button, of course).

I’ve not tested on other clients yet, but perhaps something similar is required there (force close and cache clear)?

More likely I’m completely misunderstanding your observation.

In the web app I’m seeing Plex initially send a request with limit=30 (to get some initial results quickly?), but it’s followed up by a request with limit=100, and I’m seeing more than 30 results per category. So it’s still not showing all possible results, but the limit has been ~tripled for me.

GET https://host:port/hubs/search?query=The&limit=30&[...]
GET https://host:port/hubs/search?query=The&limit=100&[...]

No, it’s a fair question. I hadn’t consciously cleared cache before posting, but the settings showed the Plex Web version was higher than the “minumum supported” version. I just did clear cache and restarted the browser, but the result is the same.

Example - There are more than 30 tracks from a dozen albums.

I do see that it still says “Top Results” at the top of the page. Does yours?

Hmm, mine still shows limit=30.

Ahh, so based on your screenshot you are using the bundled app on your PMS and not app.plex.tv. The bundled web app version is not within the range for the “new” new search experience. An eventual PMS update will need to bump the bundled app to make sure the experience is the same between bundled and hosted web apps (app.plex.tv).

As for the Shield only show so few… That’s concerning but I think @pshanew suggestions would be what I’d ask you to try first.

That’s still the old UI, so something isn’t updating properly. Don’t know why it’s not updating if you’ve cleared your cache/hard refreshed app.plex.tv though.

That’s still the old search UI. It should look something like this now, after the initial search:

Then, after selecting “View More Results,” something like:

However, there is something going on here. I just ran the query on a different computer, with a browser that I’ve never used for Plex, and it’s getting the new results. That is a Windows 10 system with Edge.

The system where I’m seeing the old results is a linux Mint system, and I’m getting the old interface on both Firefox and Vivaldi browsers.

At least now I know I’ve got something to look for.

Thanks for clarifying. I was hoping for something easy. Digging into it.

For what it’s worth, I tested just now with Firefox 117.0.1 on Pop OS 22.04 without issue. No special steps required.

Have you tried a private window in Firefox? That should rule out cache/cookies.

I’ve got the same Firefox build.

I just tried a private window, and still get the old UI. I even rebooted the computer. This is getting officially weird.

I just restarted Firefox with extensions disabled. I got the new UI. Then I restarted the browser normally, and I still have the new UI. So some extension was interfering.

Huh. I was just going to ask there was a local (outbound) proxy which might be caching site data. Maybe some “speed up browsing” extension? Glad you figured it out though.

Hard to say. Too many extensions, and I’ve never encountered this effect before, so tracking it down will be tough.

Thanks for the help, though, both of you.

Could be a cloudflare cache issue and your location in the world. Might take a few hours to be purged and updated for you.

We aims to please.
