Today we’re excited to launch major improvements to how Search works across Plex. Previously, Search presented results as segmented lists of search results, grouped by where the content comes from (ex: Personal Media library, Free on Plex, general Discover result). The groups were always presented in a fixed order regardless of what you searched for. In many cases the exact match for what you searched for was at the bottom of the list.
What’s new:
- Search results are no longer segmented by source
- Results are ranked based on relevance to your search term
- Items that exist in multiple locations will be merged into a single result.
- You can pick from multiple locations to look at by opening a new source picker.
- Content on your personal media server is used as the default location.
- Search results are no longer limited to 30 results per source
- You can filter search results by type and location from the full search page
As part of these changes we’ve also made many behind the scenes improvements and standardized how results are displayed across all of our platforms. We plan on continuing to improve the quality of our search results, so if you notice anything really off, please let us know. Use the search tag on any topics you make about it.
