Usually you don’t need to manually configure the IP address / network connection for individual clients – Plex should find accessible servers linked to your account.
What specific versions and apps are those?
Some older version of LG had recently some issues with secure connections that prevent them from seeing any servers requiring a secure connection.
I guess you’re running Plex for Android TV on your Sony – except it’s an even older model…
Hello,
Exact same problem here.
I have an LG55B8 (latest firmware) running Webos with Plex client installed (latest version).
My server is a Synology DS1515 with latest version of Plex server (1.24.5.5173), just installed yesterday because previous (1.24.4.5081) was not working either.
The LG TV suddenly stopped being able to see and connect to the server.
All other devices just work fine, included Android Boxes on the home network, or iPhone App on the Wifi Network, and iMacs on the home network (Ethernet).
The server and tv are on the same subnet.
I opened up a port in case in the synology firewall manually.
I even stopped the VPN client of my Nas
=> The LG TV cannot see the server anymore.
I disconnected from the account on the TV and re-authentified.
My TV even appears among “authorized devices” recentely accessed, in the Plex preferences of the server:
I cannot connect to the server from my LG TV… Please any help ?
OK so I finally found from another site:
I have to go to Settings, Advanced, and choose ALWAYS allow INSECURE CONNECTIONS. That’s too bad, just allowing them on the same local network unfortunately doesn’t work with LG TV.
If your TV cannot be updated, WebOS won’t include support for more recent root certificates which are required for secure communication between PMS and the client on your smart tv. Hence disabling secure connections is the only workaround if your TV is stuck to that older version of WebOS.
