I am very new to Plex and can’t find answers to my questions in the documentation that I found so far.
All my movies have subtitles, and I am dependent on them due to hearing impairment. I figured out how to display them, but I can’t find where and how to select a different font, size, color and position for subtitles (shifting them up and down).
I would expect this to be a feature in the client (player) , but can’t find it.
The player I use on my PC is downloaded from Plex - not the app from Microsoft store - I could not get it to work.
That would mean it is the ‘Plex Media Player’ (PMP).
The main trick is that most subtitle-related settings of PMP are only accessible in its ‘full screen mode’.

Once it is switched, click on your user name, then on
Settings - Subtitles
Most of the options are available there.
After you have changed the settings, you can switch PMP back into its ‘windowed mode’.
There are also some further ‘tweaks’ available for subtitles, but these require editing a configuration file:
Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I only started with Plex yesterday, and I only ever used the full screen mode when actually playing a movie. I did not even notice the icon in the top RH corner.
However, when I do switch to full screen mode, I do not have any “Settings” anywhere -
I have clicked and tried everything, but can’t find it on the full screen.
These are the only settings I have in the windowed mode -
nothing in the above, and very little below.
I will try the tweaks in the link you send to see if I can use something.
Boiled down, I would like to change the color of subtitles, and position - they sit too low on the screen, and when the control bar is on, it hides the subtitle text.
After using Kodi some years back, and VLC media player, I find Plex very limited in settings. However, I still like it, it was a breeze to set it up, and looks nice.
Too many hidden options to list and view things, no User Guide - only lots of articles full of links to other articles. I suppose it needs time and patience.
regards
Josef
You must go to the ‘home’ screen first.
Press h on your keyboard or click onto the ‘house’ icon in the top left corner.
this is all I get when I select full screen and click on Home -
I have tried to go all the way to the right and bottom - no settings.
I suppose I have the latest PMP - downloaded yesterday.
Not on the bottom.
Look up, right. Where your user name is. Click on it.
Thanks - that’s the only thing I did not click - the user icon. ( Normally, settings have its own icon )
I can change the color - my favorite Light Yellow is there. The Placement is where I am at the moment, but can not be shifted up a bit.
That would have to be done when playing, with the keyboard arrow keys, but this player can not be operated with keyboard - except pause and play with the space bar.
Unless I am missing something again.
Regarding the other settings - there are lots of things I have no idea what they mean. Is there a good guide somewhere?
Thanks
Surprise Surprise - the PMP seems to have two “skins”.
One when play is launched from the full screen mode -
nice and large player control icons, but a VERY important icon is missing - 10 sec jump back -
and you can get to Player Settings !!
The other “skin” is when full screen is launched from the windowed mode -
This one has tiny icons, but has the very useful 10 sec jump back. It also has only very few settings -
This is pretty confusing and I wonder if my wife will want to use this.
au contraire it can be operated by keyboard. In fact, it is optimized for that.
During playback, wait until the player controls have vanished from the picture.
Now press → to jump 30 seconds forward
or ← to go 10 seconds backward.

OK, get it. The player can be operated by keyboard if launched from the full screen mode.
thanks
