New to Plex

Hello everyone, I’m new to Plex and have messed around a bit with it, however now I’m looking to set up properly and likely go for the Pass once I get a chance to really enjoy the free version.

I have a question on setup as my remote access. Like so many posts I’ve seen all over the internet, although mine is enabled, it’s still red and says “Not available outside your network”.

I’m not at my PC, but I’ll provide as much information as I can - note that I’m not a very knowledgeable tech guy when it comes to networks and the like, but I’m working on it.

Hardware

  • ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 BLK DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
  • Seagate Backup Plus Hub 4TB External Desktop Hard Drive Storage (STEL4000100)
  • ASUS AC2900 WiFi Dual-band Gigabit Wireless Router with 1.8GHz Dual-core Processor
  • Amazon FireTV 2nd generation

I have Cox Cable here and a Windows 10 PC with the Seagate hooked up via USB to the tower. My PC and the FireTV are both connected directly from the router via ethernet. I am using IPVanish for a VPN installed on my PC and FireTV.

My Plex is set to Private and UPnP is enabled on the router. I have not set up a static IP or port forwarding yet, but I hear that is what I need to do next. A couple issues and questions I have are:

Had to turn off VPN to connect to the server on the FireTV, but movie lost connection many times during the viewing, a couple times I had to restart Plex to fix it.
I want to be able to remote access from my Galaxy S9, MSI laptop when traveling, and Chromecast as well as from the FireTV in my home.

I have gathered that for Port Forwarding I need to set up my router as follows:

Additionally, I read from a few people, that whatever device I am on, I’ll need to update my WiFi/Ethernet settings for a static IP - is that true? What else am I missing?

I apologize for such a needy first post, I’ve searched around the forums, sites, etc. but I wanted to come direct to this place to be sure I’m doing it right. I plan on coming here often not just for questions, but to learn and get involved now that I am planning on being a Plex guy.
