Plex on ps4 is a bit crashy… well a lot crashy, unlike every other ps4 app i use. It’s been rather disappointing given that it’s very basic in functionality - doesn’t really feel it has had it’s UI worked on and such. to have a basic feeling app crash this much seems crazy. And when it comes to plex things well you are lucky if the developers are looking at your platform this month in terms of getting bugs fixed, usually you just have to live with them for x months until they get fixed
After being annoyed with plex android+chromecast bugs persisting for a long long time, decided to evaluate other plex apps and am wondering if the devs are actively fixing bugs for the ps4 app or letting it languish? I’m aware they did a rather big update recently but was that the first update in a year? am i going to have to wait a year for this instability to go away?
thanks
So I guess it is just dead then?
i’ve had files fail to play, the app crash on listings, the app fail to load and sit on an off blue screen, the app cause other apps to fail to load somehow which i’ve never experienced before, files have audio missing when others like chromecast play it fine - even when put through the optimised versions stuff to make one ‘for tv’ it would fail to play audio
that is just regular old bugs, i mean i could go on about the aesthetics and the UI. oh well, another buggy forgotten plex thing
The PS4 is known to offer very limited ressources to Plex; the app is sandboxed with limited RAM allocation, few codecs supported, etc.
The devs do what they can with it, but I wouldn’t expect much out of it… stopped using mine for Plex.
I’m not sure i agree that the devs do what they can, when you look at other people’s apps that don’t crash, and also look and perform much better than plex on ps4 does
plex really has problems as a company with fire and forget, make something, forget about it for years, customers just have to live with the issues whilst they make plex on iwatch or whatever because that is the new shiny thing

I blame Plex devs for many things going wrong, but in THIS case I think you’re wrong. It’s much easier for a company like netflix to get their app working right because 1. They can put a lot more man power to the task, bring much bigger than Plex. 2. Get special treatment and possibilities because of the deals they make, again because they’re much bigger and much more popular (ie. They can use DD+, Plex can’t). 3. Those apps already have their media pretranscoded in the right formsts to stream to a PS4 or an appletv, while Plex, by its nature, has to do all sorts of shenanigans to our media to get it to play on those platforms.
Either way, I wouldn’t hold my breath, unfortunately.
eh, i pay 1/3rd what i pay for netflix via plex pass, and i’d hardly say i get 1/3rd the service. netflix sell me a video service and happen to also make good apps
plex sell an app service and provide buggy, crashy, poorly designed apps that get updates maybe once a year which plex will celebrate as fixing everything, but in reality they just introduced more bugs. i do blame plex for delivering a poor app experience when that is their job. netflixes job is to provide media and just happen to need to make apps to do that
