What is the roadmap or support plan for the PS4 app? The PS4 is the best selling console in this current generation, but seems to be the farthest behind in Plex App functionality. I can’t use my live DVR functions or any of the new UI capabilities that I can on something like the NVIDIA Shield. I know Sony is not the easiest to work with in terms of updating UI or any API work in general, but it would be nice to see some progress or any updates on what is coming down the road and when…
There are a lot of people that bought Plex because of its compatibility across the board, but the PS4 should not be the main playback device that gets the worst support.
Does anyone have any insight into their roadmap for this app or have any idea why the PS4 app has become so “abandoned?” It is a bit frustrating that we are getting features like “VR” for Plex, but our core applications are being ignored.
Certainly seems like they forgot about the ps4 app. I waited a while for live tv to come to it; its on xbox, which baffles me because xbox has sold quite a bit less than ps4. I ended up getting a roku ultimate, but it would still be great to see the ps4 app updated.
At this point I feel like they’re never even going to fix the current PS4 app. It worked fine before the last update. Now it’s just constant buffering and crashing. It’s been like this for probably close to a year.
I just don’t understand how this isn’t a primary platform for them. PS4, Roku, X1, Shield, etc. They should all be maintained at the same or similar application level. It would be nice to get someone from Plex to actually weigh in on this topic and provide some information. I wouldn’t be that upset if I at least knew that it was coming soon or that they were currently working on it and expect a release in a few months or something like that. I know things take time, but having no information at all and no update in this amount of time is beyond frustrating. I have been an avid Plex user since it was in beta and would love to continue using the product. At this point I am already looking at alternatives…
I honestly believe that they’re trying to support waaaay too many platforms that they can’t keep up with the more important/main platforms. They should cut their ties with the less used platforms and set their focus to a specific group of platforms.
I agree. VR? Seriously? How is VR a thing for Plex, but we can’t get an app updated on one of the largest platforms in the world. Definitely seems backwards.
Exactly! Like honestly, I don’t see how VR is really relative rn or why anyone would want to watch a movie with that thing on for that long. Like u cant keep adding stuff like that when you don’t even have the basics.
I’m not having any issues, but the one thing that drives me crazy with the PS4/PS3 app is not being able to replicate the look of how I have my media set-up using PLEX on my PC. I recently purchased a NAS to dedicate as a media server, and not being able to display movies/TV “Collections” on the PS apps is kind of ridiculous. It’s just a metadata view, how hard would it be to allow the app to group it in a similar way to what the PC does?
An example: I have the complete Abbot & Costello films backed up since the DVDs I purchased were the dreaded flippers. On my PC when I added them to PLEX, I created a “Abbott & Costello” collection and have the MOVIES tab set to group films into collections. When browsing my Movies on PC, all the films show under the customer Collection. On my PS4, I have to browse through about 20 films with “ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET” in the title before getting to the next alphabetized title. If I want to view my collections on the PS4, i have to drill down a menu and pick a specific one.
This wouldn’t be a big deal if my collection was only 100 movies, but it’s going to be much larger. Not being able to hide titles that are in a collections and have collections who under the MOVIES tab is going to be a real mess to use on the PS4.

Yea I mean look at this, PS4 only has 4 update releases so far in 2018, while Xbox One, on the other hand, has 22 updates. Sooo many more frequent updates for Xbox One. Take a look here.
I just got a new Harmony Remote with Harmony Hub. The key bindings in Plex are often nonsensical.
FF and RW buttons don’t work. Have to use arrow buttons. Stop button doesn’t work either, but the biggest problem is that there is no Back button anywhere to be found.
Please update these grade school level basic features.
Welp, seems the new update is coming to all platforms in the next couple days except PS4. I really just do not understand this logic here. Why did Plex not put in an update ticket to Sony to push the new update out. Such frustrating times for PS4 users continue… ;(
I’ve been watching the ps4 threads here for years. Guys you need to give up and move away from plex.
Plex will never update the ps4 app. They have been promising it for years and all the ps4 app ever gets is maybe one update every two years that doesn’t fix anything, doesn’t improve anything, but adds bugs.
Plex don’t care. They don’t give a crap. They already got your money. Don’t be like me, I spent a few years with that app until I just gave up. Thinking hey surely they would update the experience on the most popular console of the generation.
No, they won’t. Move to emby. Move to android TV. Move anywhere else because if you think for a moment that plex will do any work on this at all then you are setting yourself up for months of disappointment.
The bugs won’t be fixed, that same crap interface will persist. It’ll never support 4k, HDR, h265, or psvr. Plex are complete failures and the only company on playstation completely incapable of producing a functional app.
Give up. They don’t even read here. Why would they, they don’t support playstation so it’s not like they care about your issues at all.
Hey Gordallott. Your message really struck a nerve with me and I think I am finally going to give up on Plex. I think you are absolutely right. I have a FreeNAS server and invested a ton of money into the setup…and to have such little software support is beyond frustrating. I will be looking for a replacement to Plex and will also make sure all of my friends and family do the same. If they will not support us, then we will not support them.
With that in mind, what would you recommend for a replacement? You seem very knowledgeable about options. My main clients are PS4 (PS4 Pro as well), NVIDIA Shield, and Roku TVs. I run FreeNAS on a custom built machine, so something compatible with that would be ideal. I do enjoy the live TV/DVR functionality from the antenna on Plex, so ideally something that has that feature as well, but also includes 4K and HDR playback. Is there an option out there that matches these requirements? If not, I might just keep Plex in the background for the Live TV function, but definitely look for a better media server.
