Starting with Version 1.36.1 Plex HTPC ships a new movie info screen with new icons and a rearrangement of the director/genre. I really like the new more modern look of the icons but there is something that bugs me.
With the old one, you have all the necessary information in one glance, everything seems aligned nicely. The genre is at the top next to the duration and the age rating. Under the “story info,” there is also a nice director and author section.
With the new one, you get new “interaction” icons - which look very nice. The genre is now in a second line that to my eye looks off - space-wise. It seems to be squished too tightly to the upper line with the duration and so on… Also, the director and author section is now gone.
Would it be possible to put the genre back up in the first line? (Mentioning only two instead of three as in the new GUI is probably fine)
Is it possible to get back the director section? In my opinion, it’s very nice to have the director named on the same page as the cast. With the new Gui you have to click on the “story info” text and scroll down to see who has directed the movie. This is kinda inconvenient. (Maybe put it back under the “story info” text like it was with the old GUI?)
yea alot got removed. not just on movies. on tvshows studio is also just gone. I reverted all my clients to the version before the change as I love the old UI. Having all that info at a quick glance is so nice
The New UI is bad design only meant to serve that huge social network button (that if you turn off, leaves a huge empty space on larger TVs… screenshots above don’t illustrate how bad this new UI actually gets). Same garbage we expect Twitter & Facebook to shove down users’ throats.
They should’ve kept the director and writer text fields as they were and made them “clickable” like the plot summary box. That way people could end up on the director or writer’s profile page, and we wouldn’t need to lose the at-a-glance info we had previously.
Never mind the entirely unnecessary shrinking of the action buttons. The space this saves isn’t even used by the background. It makes the app more difficult to use for older users during day-to-day use.
Shoving the director’s photo in-front of the actors doesn’t actually fix the writers being removed and actually takes up considerably more room than just the director’s name.
It’s so comically bad that most users are assuming these changes are bugs (see the numorous threads about this on this forum at in the Plex subreddit) and not an intentional change.
Bit by bit they’ll prioritize the non-home user experience to the detriment of home users. This, I fear, is just the start.
