New UI is an awful experience

We see it too, terrible (Charles Barkley voice.)

nope, plex pass users too. It’s not just the new design, I could deal with that. It literally does not function, if you go to a show and click on play next, nothing happens.

Just blast their billing support with complaints. Maybe they will know who pays their bills. You literally can’t contact them for tech support.

How is the Roku app with Jellyfin? I don’t have Roku devices but am thinking about switching over and many of my users have them.

I’ve had to tell my friend he was right about regretting my decision to go with Plex over Jellyfin

Posted this elswhere but I have to restate: this new UI is frustrating and, to me, intentionally making it harder for users to access their own hosted media.

Had to go outta my way to turn off live tv and movies & shows just to avoid having that content pushed in my face just turning on the roku app.

The favoriting a couple of my libraries thing works okay but now if I want to browse the individual items in a library I have to go multiple menus deep. Specifically, out of the home screen and into each individual library – a process that is so much more annoying and time consuming. Why make your app an actual chore to use compared to before?

Bless my elderly parents who are going to the WORST time remembering that you have to move from home to “libraries” > select the RELEVANT library (I have separate for movies and tv shows) > find the BROWSE button on the side panel after selecting a library (a side panel that only exists when you’re in a library, so that’s fun for someone not technologically inclined) > and THEN finally start looking for your movie

I’m sorry, but I’m almost certain there was no user testing on this change. It signals to me a clear cashgrab to try and promote their livestreams and freemium media.

“If every user autoplays a stream and sees advertised free stuff every time they open the app, we’ll start turning a quick buck!” is what it seems. If this wasn’t the intentional design (trying to force users to become profit via forced autoplay and free stuff being advertised) then they sure did mess up trying to improve the UI.

Having a lot fun menu surfing to access any of the actual stuff people even use Plex for.

i cant see how they did beta testing with just the sheer volume of things that dont work. let alone the gui itself

“Hmmm we can’t get any more money out of the people who bought plex pass a decade ago….I know lets break everything and have them pay a subscription to fix it!” -Boardroom dude

Piling on here. I’ve been a happy Plex user for years. This update has ruined something that was perfectly good. It’s laggy, difficult to navigate, promotes a bunch of “content” that I don’t have any interest in (i.e. their freemium BS), and makes it a lot more cumbersome to get to what I actually want to watch. Really frustrating. I can try switching clients but this doesn’t inspire confidence in Plex’s vision or leadership.

How do we get the prior version on the roku app for roke TVs cause this isnt even useable, my kids cant navigate this trash UI. Ive had Plex since 2014 and this is the worst UI I have ever seen. How do I just get the better prior version back on my roku TV cause this is just toxically bad.

We are. Nothing but ads for crap I don’t want.

We’re having the same issues and frustrations as everyone else here too. Also, we use the “Live TV and DVR” feature religiously in our house (the OTA and HD Homerun version, not the “free” plex streaming channels). The new update removed all of the media posters when you’re scrolling through the different channels on the tv guide. My kids can’t read yet but they’ve always been able to see the poster art on the guide and then pick their channels. Not anymore. I loved that feature myself too. It made scrolling through the guide experience so much better and now it’s gone. TERRIBLE DECISION.

jellyfin app works fine on roku, just set it up tonight. Still learning about jellyfin’s metadata differences, but other than that everything is working great for me.

There’s no way this new UI isn’t a practical joke or some A.I. pseudo-brain fart. Astonishing how ridiculous this is.

Why do media companies think that a top menu bar is preferable? It is utter garbage. Netflix did this to me, and I’m about to cancel their service. Now the new Plex experience is also pushing everything to the top. I’m a lifetime subscriber, and if the app on Roku continues to look like this, I will probably give up on Plex as well. It is inconvenient to use. I used to be able to find everything I want quickly including other servers that I’m friends with. Now, it is unusable. Please go back to the old layout with libraries on the left side in a vertical stack. There’s no reason to have to scroll all the way to the top for stuff and not have the ability to hide certain things I don’t want. I can’t even figure out how to refresh my library at this point.

The new “experience” is the absolute worst experience of my day and I had a root canal this afternoon. Who approved even the concept for this “experience”? How do I delete it and get my old Plex back?

How do I pin my favorite libraries to the side bar? Why oh why did they have to do this to me?

Just throwing my opinion on the pile. New UI is trash, I don’t want any of this Home Screen garbage. All I want is my personal media libraries.
