I have been using plex for about 2 years now. I use it on iOS, Roku, and my XBOX one. Everything has worked just great until yesterday when I updated plex on the XB1. Now nothing is streaming well. It skips, stutters, freezes… Sometimes it will play audio while the video is frozen and then it will play the video super fast, past where the audio is at and then freeze until the audio catches up. Is this a known thing or do I need to delete and reinstall or what? TIA!
Yes been having freezes for so long now. The annoying thing is the Xbox media app doesn’t play mkv so can’t even use the dlna feature on Xbox. My fire TV Samsung TV all stream the files fine

It certainly does play MKV´s.
Just no DTS sound, but this should be transcoded if you use PLEX as your DLNA server.
I tried to play an mkv last night on the media app and it just returned an Xbox error cannot play this content
OK, you have to look at the logs for this.
But genereally the xbox media player app can play MKV files.

There is no DLNA profile packaged with the server for the Xbox One. So while MKV’s are supported by the app and the DLNA player you do need to manually install the Xbox One DLNA profile in the user directory to get DTS audio to transcode.
It has been awhile so I am not 100% sure if the video will still play with no audio, but based on what jphccfc said the DTS audio may trigger the cannot play this content message without a profile.
OK, I thought there was one.
Then it´s clear why it is not working
I have the same issue. Just after the 19th july update, the streaming goes really really wrong.
Having the same issue. Watched for a few hours and happened at least 5 times.
Yeah, the new update is slightly less borked than the last one. C’mon plex team what the hell? I feel like that tv commercial where they figure out they’re having a terrible streaming experience.
I’ve been having issues for the last couple of weeks (approx). Some items won’t open at all, but most of them will play but freeze for approx 2-5 seconds every 30 seconds or so. These are items that used to play perfectly, but are now completely unwatchable. They still play fine on my smart TV, computer, iPad and Android phone - it’s only the Xbox One application giving me trouble.
Server is running on a synology NAS. Server version is 1.0.2.2413.
Client version 1.7.1.0
(I originally had server version 0.9.16.3 when I first noticed the issue so I upgraded but the issue remained).
I have uninstalled and re-installed the Plex app. I have restarted the server, restarted the NAS, restarted the modem, done a hard reset on the Xbox. I have disabled Direct Play, and then Direct Stream as well. Nothing has worked

I just checked playing the same files through the Media Player app on the Xbox and have the same issue. Maybe this is more of a Microsoft issue? My XBox OS version is 10.0.10586.1202
Heya. Could someone post server logs when the issue occurs during playback? This sounds like a pretty frustrating issue but also confuses me because nothing was changed around media playback in the last update.

Logs from when it happened for me earlier tonight. I tried a couple of files and was having trouble with all of them. This was after I restarted everything, and turned on the server logging option in the Xbox app.
@emshelly Those are DLNA server logs, I’d need the media server logs!

Right. Oops!
This is from this morning - about 7:30. I started playing one file which took a while to load, then stuttered a lot before actually playing. Then I opened a second file which was just freezing and skipping the whole time.
@emshelly Thanks for the logs. I can see that the item is direct playing and that there are some pretty bad buffering issues. Since the file is being direct played it’s unlikely that the server or app is responsible for those issues. For direct play the file url is simply passed to the XB1 media player to play. Have you tried connecting your XB1 with an ethernet connection?
@Moussa Sadly that is my ethernet connection. However I have it connected using Ethernet over power and after some testing it turns out that outlet (suddenly) wasn’t getting a great connection. I’ve now switched it to a different outlet and so far so good!
Thanks for your help even though it turned out not to be a Plex issue
@emshelly Just glad you’ve got it sorted! Network issues are always a real pain in the ■■■■
