I just downloaded Plex yesterday, installed it on my Mac Mini Catalina Version 10.15 19A602. I am using an HDHomeRun (“HDHR5-4US HDHomeRun Connect Quatro 4 Channel Tuner”) for the tuner, both connected to my LAN hub via CAT5E cables. I’m using Chrome on my iMac workstation to control and play files from my Plex system. I’ve also downloaded Plex viewers on my iPad and Apple TV. (I can’t find how to determine the viewer version numbers for those two systems.)
I’ve connected to my HDHR directly, both by web interface (tuners seem to be okay) and by the HDHR program I downloaded from the maker. No problem interfacing with the HDHR that I can see at all.
I’ve been getting various errors, from network error (oddly enough, only for my wired devices, not the one on wifi - don’t think that matters, though), to errors about incomplete recordings. I did get ONE recording to start playing on my iPad, but once it started and I saw it start, I didn’t keep watching it.
I added some video files and my music collection and found I can play those files through my viewers (including Chrome, Apple TV, and my iPad). I haven’t checked every single file, but I have gone through and checked some and I find a lot of cases where they are labeled as failed recordings.
So other files play, but files Plex has recorded show errors and many are labeled as failed recordings. Error messages seem inconsistent. I can try to play a file at one time and get a network error and later see that it’s marked failed.
I’ve looked over this thread and would like to download the Mac version before 1.17.0.1709 and try that. I’ve also seen references that there may be issues with permissions. (I’m the only “real” user on this Mac Mini and I installed Plex under my account.)
I downloaded logs (non-verbose), but there are so many log files I’m not sure what to look for or even what files to look in. If I just grep for “error” in the directory of all the files, will that pull out any pertinent log entries?
