New User - Connection Help using HDHomeRun Quatro, Windows 10 PC, Spectrum/Time Warner Cable

I currently have a PC running Plex which I just upgraded from using WMC on Windows 8 to now running Windows 10. I have questions on how to hook up my system using the components I just bought.

I currently have basic cable from Spectrum Cable. Previously it was running to a cable card and Ceton InfiniTV 4. I still have the cable card and pulled the Ceton out of the PC. I recently purchased a HD Homerun Connect Quatro as I need the four tuners to record four programs at a time. The issue now is what do I do with the cable card and if it is needed at all or could be returned.

From what I can tell the correct hookup with my devices would be the coaxial cable from the wall (Spectrum) to the HD HomeRun Connect Quatro and then use an ethernet cable going from my HD HomeRun Connect Quatro to my network router. Is this correct and is it that simple (am I over thinking it)? Any advice would be appreciated including if I have the wrong hardware. My goal is for the Plex server to be hooked up to my computer for DVR storage and main tv and still be able to watch from the Plex app on XBox’s and Roku’s throughout the house.

Thanks for any help!

I’ll have to look but I use the HDHR-CC model which is CC cause cable card.

Mine has 3 tuners so I’ll check if the quatro supports a cable card but you will need that cable card for sure!

Some hdhr just do OTA which requires no cable card.

So yeah this is what you need

You cannot use a Quatro with spectrum. The quatro is for over the air ATSC reception. You need the HDhomerun prime and plug your cable card in it. The current prime model has 3 tuners. I think HDhomerun annonced at the CES show a HDhomerun prime 6 tuners, but this is not yet available.

For the connection, you have it. RF cable (from the wall spectrum) to the F connector on the HDhomerun prime. Then ethernet cable from HDhomerun prime to the router (lan).

Edit: Also forgot. What was your cable company before Spectrum? (Time Warner)? You need to be aware that Plex cannot deal with DRM channels. So even with the prime and a cable card, it’s possible that you don’t get a lot of channels. But you won’t really know until you try it.

only the HDHomerun Prime uses the cablecard. the connect is ATSC, or Qam only. The connect would only work with your spectrum as long as they are clear Qam channels (if there are any) and ONLY the clear Qam channels. Only way to tell is plug the coax into the wall from spectrum, connect a network cable to the connect, power it up and go to a web browser and open www.myhdhomerun.com then scan for channels and see if it finds anything. I wouldnt expect much
