Current versions of Plex Clients put a lot of information on default client interfaces that are not the information users need to see. Even worse, at least some current Plex clients don’t remember user preferences when they are updated. As much as I enjoy my monthly 45 minute conversation with my uncle wherein I have to walk him through the process of signing in to Plex so he can use the Tizen app on his TV, then explain how to find the Library view again, I’d much, much rather have a preference or flag somewhere on either client or server to ensure that “Trending” and “Discover” aren’t on the opening screen to cause confusion among the very young or very old people using Plex and that Library view is always the default rather than Recommended. I’d kill to be able to set this flag for managed users who exist on my server, but it’s even more important for client devices on devices I’ve literally never seen, like Tizen, WebOS or anything Apple. I’d happily spend the time to to configure it once per client, if it meant never having to explain to an 80 year old that, no, Avatar 2 is not on my Plex server and no, I don’t know why Plex thinks you want to want to watch “2 Broke Girls and can you please go back to looking for the word Library?”
The preferences for user views is actually a support issue because I don’t always own the devices other people use and I can only speak generally as to what they might be looking for. Ideally, I’d like to set things up so the only thing people see are the libraries on my singular server, but if nothing else I should not HAVE to keep asking people to take photos of their TV so I help them navigate in what was at one time a simple product.
