Thanks for posting the workaround, @paulcarless . This stupid update happened right as I was installing a fresh copy of Windows 10 on my computer. It took me almost two hours to realize the flaw was not my fault, but rather from an update that was pushed while I was in the middle of reinstalling all my software.
I have a Chromecast, so I’d just assume wait for Plex to push a new update that fixes this. You guys make it seem like that could take months? You really think it would take that long to fix a newly introduced bug that renders the Fire TV almost entirely useless?
The new interface has some pros, for example I like the individual title pages, I can select the audio track before starting the film / TV show and it does seem a little quicker overall, however yes it certainly needs some work and doesn’t match some of the other new design changes seen elsewhere, which is very odd!
Overall, feels like it was rushed out unfortunately.
I have Version 6.4.3.1944 on my Fire Stick and I am having the same issues. Only workaround I have found is to install Kodi and install Plex as a Video add on.
The above was to address the issue of “missing” sound on videos which are transcoded with 5.1/7.1 channel mixes. Won’t address the video stutter issue.
5 days have passed since this update, a lot of people complaining and I don’t even see Plex assuming it’s a problem. We Plex Pass members deserve some sort of answer I guess?

Right, I found a way to install the previous version of Plex and now everything is back to normal. No need to change settings and everything plays as it once did.
Uninstall Plex from the Fire TV/Stick - settings, applications, manage applications, Plex, clear app data, clear cache, Uninstall
Whilst still in Applications scroll up to Appstore and turn off auto updates.
Using the Amazon App Store download “Downloader”
On the Fire TV/Stick go into Settings, Device and then Developer options and select Apps from Unknown Sources and switch ON
Downloaded will open the URL and will throw up a Javascript error. Click ok and use the Amazon remote to move the red circle (pointer) down to click on “Your download will start immediately. If not, please click here.”
It will start downloading Plex and once it’s finished scroll to the bottom of the page and click INSTALL
Once installed click OPEN. Sign into Plex as usual and you will see it is working as it was
IMPORTANT Final step On the Fire TV/Stick go into Settings, Device and then Developer options and select Apps from Unknown Sources and switch OFF
Hope this helps.
Signed up just to say, you’re a legend mate. Thanks very much. Everything back to normal now.

Thanks for this…I’ve rolled back 1 of my Fire Sticks (the one we mainly watch) and now streams with no stuttering issues.
Really hoping Plex address this soon…it seems crazy to me that this wasn’t picked up in QA. Surely Amazon Fire TV devices must be one of the more popular client devices for Plex and this is a pretty big deal which impacts them all by the look of it.
I am having the same issue. Brief stutter or lost frame around every 6 seconds of any video I play. I tried mkv, mp4 and avi, direct play and transcoded. I noticed it while traveling with a portable server setup, so at first I thought it was my setup, but when I returned home I got the same results with a whole other setup (different server hardware, router, internet, etc). FireTV stick version 6.4.3.1944, PMS 1.8.4.4249.

Plex should be paying you for keeping people like me on their app. Thanks for killing it with this response!
Just wanted to chime in and say I was having this exact same skipping issue after the latest update on the Fire Stick. Followed paulcarless’ instructions to install previous version and the skipping issue went away. Neither here nor there, but I prefer the previous versions interface better so it’s a win/win. Thanks paul!
Just wanted to add a bump in this thread to also let them know it’s happening to my firetv stick as well. Video studder every few seconds. I eventually ended up using plex on a galaxy s6 and smartview’ed it over to the firestick with screen mirroring and this worked for a temporary solution. I’ll try to wait it out for an update.
Came to the forums to post exactly the same thing. Staying round my father’s for a week, so I installed Plex on his gen 1 Fire stick. No matter what I play, I get a stutter every 4-5 seconds. As people have said, audio is fine, it’s as if it’s resyncing the video.
I’m streaming remotely, but if you guys are getting it locally and I can stream to laptop/phone fine, it’s not that.
No settings change affected it. Will potentially install older version, since it’s quite off putting.
I thought the Fire stick was an ideal player, so this is a shame. Hope the Devs at least know about this.
I don’t normally post but I have to say THANK YOU so much @paulcarless you have made my day - the workaround took less than 10 mins and the old version works perfectly.
Plex could use someone like you!!!
