New Xbox One App preview

The preview version worked well for TV / Movies, but not for music. “Go to Artist” navigation link is essential to have. Where are the lyrics? Other features (add to playlist, play next etc.) The Xbox app features should be exactly the same as on other platforms (eg. Android). For now I had to revert to older app, as it’s not yet ready for prime time.

To devs - what is your time frame for launching new app?

Thank you.

I really like the new layout and UI. I would LOVE it if the option to shuffle the entire series was available in each episode or season’s page. Right now, it is kinda awkward to go to the episode from “Continue Watching” then nav up to the seasons, then allllll the way over to series overview page (series like Family guy with a lot of seasons…scrolling forever).

Looks great.

Subtitles have a habit of disappearing at random. I can just go into settings and disable them and re-enable them and they work again.
This also happens in the old version, but it seems to have been worse.

Also, in the old version, you could return to the home screen from anywhere by pressing the button with the two rectangles. This doesn’t seem to work anymore.

  1. Open the user menu in the app and select Leave Early Access
  2. The HUD should disappear after a short period of inactivity after pausing, but we are looking to redesign the controls so keep an eye out.
  3. This isn’t the final design and will be tweaked

It hasn’t been implemented yet but it’ll be coming.

It’s in the known issues, we are going to tweak.

Chapter skipping hasn’t been implemented yet.

Thanks for the report, we’ll look into it!

I’m still seeing a lot of buffering and skipping on long (3 hour) videos until I turned off Direct Play, same as the old app - it works fine with Direct Stream.
I like the new screensaver

Edit: If someone can let me know what information I can provide or troubleshooting I can do on my side, please let me know.

Folder view is present. When in a library select the type view and look for the Folders option.

Go to Artist is missing for the moment, but will come back. Lyrics are already supported, there should be a toggle in the music player. We don’t currently have a time frame for launching, as there’s still a fair few features needed to get closer to parity.

The subtitles disappearance issue will be fixed in the next release! Filing internally to bring back the shortcut to return home :+1:

Is the left hand menu hidden on load by design? If so, I don’t like it. I have to unintuitively bump left to get to it… There’s no indicator that it’s there to begin with.

I would prefer for it to live there till I bumped right to browse… like the Roku app.

Also, when using the left menu, content in the window does not change when moving up and down as it does in the other versions.

I like that the description is now shown in the post-play screen, but I miss the season and episode info, like season number, episode number and air date.

Great thanks for the response. I did notice that I can make the HUD disappear by hitting the “back” button on my remote (Logitech Harmony Hub). It’s looking good so far. :+1:

Well, I checked and the buffering issue does not seem to be fixed. Also, when I put my music on random, it goes for about an hour then just stops. Has happened numerous times. I use the Shield for movies because no buffering and ATMOS. But the Shield seemed to just stop when I play all tracks randomly so I’ve always used the Xbox for music. Now the new Xbox app seems to have the Shield weakness.

It’s nice that the text for the filter screen is big, but it takes forever to scroll through a filter, especially something like Actor or Director, where there can be hundreds or thousands of options within the metadata. Definitely needs a way to skip ahead, like an alphabet key on the side.

Better yet, would be great to be able to sort different filter options in regards to how frequently they appear within libraries.

Also if you click on an actor to see their filmography, it doesn’t tell you the number of videos (which it did in the old app)

tried the early access for a whole of 5 minutes.
Was unable to connect to a plex server run on a synology nas.
Tried unsecured access to network, all settings. Tried hard coding the ip to the server. Still no success.

Reverted and left early access and it all worked fine no issues.

No playback issues so far, hoping this will resolve the buffering issues. So far so good. Just a few comments on the new App:

  1. Why do TV shows have seasons listed at the top of the screen then season cover art separately? Shouldn’t the overview page just show the cover art for seasons? The current implementation looks like a halfway house between two different designs.
  2. No TV extras. Other OSs e.g. android show TV extras at a Show, season or episode level if you use the Local TV Extras Agent. Disappointing that the new app doesn’t bring this functionality to Xbox.

Edited to RemoveTV Theme music from comments. Just seen it’s listed as a known issue.
Second edit - removed background art. It’s there now. It was just a grey background before. I can’t replicate the issue and the feature has been implemented.

It’s been better. I tend not to have issues if I don’t leave mid movie to say join a party or other things like that. I also like to ensure other apps or games closed properly first ie force close. I use plex on tcl tv Samsung phone and Xbox. Xbox by far offering the least features. So far preview of new version has gone well. Watching 1080 p with 7.1 through a vpn and no issues. Hope this helps
