I am a bit paranoid on opening ports on my Fritz!Box 7530 router. But as I experience troubles on Android Auto using indirect (relay) mode, (see Trouble with Android Auto - #3 by Tobster77), I probably should test a more common connection opening ports.
As I assume that I am not the first one doing this on a Fritz!Box, I wanted to ask for quick guide on the best settings to ensure as much security as possible on my Fritz!Box. As far as I understood, manually opening the port is much more safe than UPNP.
I read e.g. that one should not open port 32400 to the internet as an attacker would expect a PMS listening there. Are there other recommendations?
Would someone help and provide a list of steps to be performed on a Fritz!Box?
Thanks a lot!
Tobias

There’s a German guide on AVM’s homepage (incl. a video)
I have yet to find the English/international version of that article.
As for your question on what port to use… this is “security by obscurity” – it might help distract somebody who’s doing a generic scan. A serious attacker will probably be less confused by that.
That’s a good enough reason for me to opt for a different port
You’ll need to set different/specific ports if you want to enable remote access on multiple Plex servers inside the same home network.
No, German is fine, thanks. I know that ressource, but it is generic and not dedicated to Plex. I was hoping someone also exactly uses Fritz!Box and Plex, maybe providing screenshots or specific settings.
However, the “external” port in the Fritz!Box is the one I have to specify in the PMS settings “public port”? And which protocoll do I have to admit (TCP, UDP)?
Create a port forward like this – you can name it according to your liking; internally the forward needs to point to tcp/32400. The green box is the public port you’ll specify
