First off, I downloaded Plex from the Roku that I have in my bedroom. I keep hearing about all the wonderful things it can do.
Anyway, I don’t have media on my PC that I care to watch on Plex. I want to watch the channels that are available on plex. I selected a few that I would like. I’ve also downloaded and am running the server. But for some reason, when I logon on my Roku , it tells me it cannot find my server. I am logged in on my PC so why do I need a server if all I want to do is watch channels that are available in Plex??? Am I missing something here??
Plex is a client/server application where the server provides the streams to the client for dislplay. A server must be running and properly set up and accessible to the client for the client to display much of anything.
Now, if you server is running and if you have libraries set up in it then there can be other problems starting with the server and the client needing to be logged onto the same Plex account.
Edit: As far as channels go they need to be installed on your server and the server must be running and, for many, the server must be powerful enough to transcode the stream provided.
I guess the whole point of my question is: Who stores all kinds of media (movies/Cds/TV shows) on their computer in the first place? When I go out onto my streaming device I want to FIND the material OUT THERE, not necessarily watch things that I have stored! Maybe Plex isn’t for me??? But I saw there are Plex channels that are available.

Just about everyone that uses Plex stores at least some of their content locally and many of us have a VERY large local library of stuff we have ripped/recorded from many sources.
Just about everything that works well as a Plex channel is also available as a Roku app so that might be a better choice for you.
