Newest Beta Dolby Vision Issue

Have just submitted for the hotfix image. But I have just tried it again on my shield running v8.2 with LG CX.

Unless it is fixed in v8.2.1 I’m not sure how people can’t see it. That particular part we are all screenshooting had red artefacts literally falling down the urinals. They are actually moving - I’m not really sure how people don’t instantly see these things moving on the screen. I remember the first time I tried it and didn’t think it was too bad, until that very point. Even if you can ‘put up with it’, there’s definitely something wrong with it and based on other tests I’m fairly certain it isn’t just a red on white problem.

Played the same scene right after on the fire stick (converted to MEL) and plays perfectly.

Will try it again on the shield if I get the system update.

Edit: watched it again and pretty sure it’s mimicking the hand movement by cruise, hence why they are moving.

No issues with reds on my Shield/C8 and I’m using the the original FEL

Are you running the hotfix image / v8.2.1?

I’d be surprised if it was a tv issue given the number of people reporting it.

No hotfix, just 8.2.0. To my eye I don’t see any problem with my images.

I have a Shield / C8 in a pitch black room and there are red spots. Not only this movie but all of them.

On the first lot of images you posted, there’s a red spot on the first complete urinal (from the right).

It’s in the bottom left corner. You can see it in the shield image but not the image from the C8.

There are others in the image too but at that point they are fading. Much easier to see when they are moving on the screen

I honestly don’t see it and the skin tones are the same across all images :man_shrugging:

I’m playing an old Dual Layer MP4 remux on the native Plex app, this uses the internal player of the C8.

Why is it not worthwhile? As far as I’m aware there are no issues with the LG internal player.

I’m using the internal player as a benchmark of correct playback the same way you are are using the 4K Firestick with a MEL converted file. I do not see any red spots and the skin tones are the same. Don’t get the hump because I’m disagreeing with you

Someone mentioned they converted MI Fallout to MEL to playback on the 4K Firestick to make a comparison, I thought it was you but it must have been someone else. Again, that is a fair comparison just like comparing to the LG internal player as I’m sure you would agree

You just can’t see them. Not only the red spots are in your picture but you can see it affect the whole tone of the image.

Apologies, it was YeomanNAS who performed the MEL conversion to playback on the 4K Firestick.

Yep, and there’s nothing wrong with the internal player for comparison. Same as any Blu-ray player has been proven to have accurate (colour) playback. The shield on the other hand does not.

Haha wow, screw the red spots, just look at how much red is in Cavill’s clothes!

Video stuttes continuously and looks like is due to some DTS MA tracks, the Akira spanish track is DTS XLL (DTS-HD Master Audio) 96.0 kHz 16 bits.

I asked on the Nvidia forum and they told me Plex knows the problem and is looking for a solution:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/394826/shield-experience-upgrade-82-released-8262020/2820826/

I can’t figure out did I do something is there a setting? Everything worked yesterday now, only HDR is triggered. I reset the Shield no go same problem, I tried messing with the plex settings. They seem to have no effect.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I tried Requiem for a Dream yesterday - FEL converted to 8.1, it looked pretty bright and airy, not how I remember it at all, Plex on the Shield started to give me skipped frames and I couldn’t watch it any further so tried it in HDR10 on Kodi and it was a dull darkish film with highlights, this is how I remember the film.

Intrigued I tried the original FEL on the Oppo and it was a great picture, but not bright in every scene…

The shield is definitely ramping everything up then gated clipping instrument of rolling off, I think the TM is all wrong.

Still work to be done.

P.S. I do think people with OLEDs see this problem more than people with LCD, just a thought.

v8.2.1 has been released.

yeah got the update, the issue of Dolby Vision not always triggering still exists - tested a few DV movies, most worked first time but one (Flash Gordon) triggered HDR on first go and took 1 reattempt for DV to trigger.

For me the latest update to the tube version has screwed things even worse.

DV won’t play at all for me now and crashes the entire shield.
