Plex DVR worked out very well for me last year to record and watch the NY teams play football here in Missouri. It worked out so well that I even cancelled my DirecTV subscription after being with them for 19 years.
Well here we are in NFL Preseason 2018 and I am starting to have issues. Hey, I know that it is just preseason, but I’m concerned that the problems may carry over into the regular season. I love all the new features that have been showing up in my Plex Pass and the product is definitely maturing, but NFL season is no time to start having bugs crop up.
Most of all, I love the new Grid Guide, but I believe that there are problems with it. Not to mention that I am getting the issue of “plex unable to tune channel no parts” on NBC. There is no problem with the channel, as I can tune it just fine with HDHR Prime. When I rebooted the server, it started recording and allowing me to view the NBC channel live again.
Any way, to the main point of this post. I am having problems with recording specific NFL games that may have already aired, but are being repeat broadcast on the NFL network.
A specific example is occurred tonight (8/17/2018). The New York Giants are playing the Detroit Lions on NBC-NY. The game started a while ago and I got a message that the recording failed before the game ended.
When I tried to tune the channel, I got the error about unable to tune channel no parts. I rebooted the server and it started recording the game again. However, I don’t want to watch a partial game, I want to watch the whole game.
So, no big deal, right. I cancelled the recording in progress and open the grid guide and browse to the NFL channel. I start searching for the next airing of this game and when I found it, I schedule it to record. I’m thing great, I can wait and watch the game on Saturday. Well, guess what, since the game is currently still in progress, it immediately started recording the game on NBC.
This is a big problem for me. One thing that I will mention is that the title of the game includes the date in the beginning of it. I think that the PLEX DVR engine and guide is getting confused.
If there are any logs that I should post, let me know what you would like and how to gather them and I will gladly put them up.
I have too much money invested in equipment in NY and I am not going to miss any NY NFL games this upcoming season and if I have to, I will buy a HDHomeRun DVR subscription just to be able to reliably record these football games.
