Nightly News Issues - Guide marked as NEW but has original airdate

I am using SiliconDust’s XML for guide data and it seems that Plex is not respecting the NEW tag on programs. Example below for nightly news where the XML has tagged it as NEW but due to the original air date, Plex does not record this NOR does it record repeat airings as the show with that airdate is in my library. I can tell because if I clear it out and record it again, the play status of the prior day’s news sticks.

This is still occurring. The only workaround so far is to delete the episodes immediately so that they get picked up again.

Note that the ‘new’ element doesn’t necessarily imply a new episode of a series. This is from the XMLTV “spec,” or at least the DTD on Github.

Specifically, the second paragraph states that the presence of this element doesn’t mean a new episode. Everyone would need to agree to use it as such for it to mean that.

Here’s an example of an episode which is (correctly) tagged as “New” in the Plex guide using an XMLTV source:
