No aerial for the Silicondust HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO - options?

I have a Plex media server setup on my HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 in my basement flat. I recently purchased the Silicondust HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO tuner with the hopes of setting it up to my Plex server and doing away with my Virgin subscription.

Now the issue is that I can find an aerial socket anywhere in my flat, so I assume it must have been removed or it never had one. I’ve read you can use an indoor tuner but I’m guessing in a basement flat it may cause issues with reception?

So what are my options? Is it worth getting someone to fit a TV aerial or would a powerful indoor aerial be an option? Can I use a cable connection instead? Can it use the ethernet connection to find channels?

Any suggestions or thoughts welcome! Thanks

There are HDHR tuners for cable, yes. But I am not sure that a model for over-the-air is able to receive all channels from cable.

No.
But you can use an ethernet connection to bring the tuner device closer to the antenna, so the signal loss on a long HF cable is reduced.

Ultimatley only you can decide that, based on the OTA channels on offer in your area.
I recommend you to find/borrow a regular digital TV set and an indoor antenna and try how many stations you can tune in.
Then take this device outside or onto the roof/balcony and repeat the reception test. Ask your neighbours about possible experience with regular OTA tv reception in the quarter.
There might be websites which inform you about available OTA stations in your region.

Thanks for the replies, I’ve just realised I live right next to a huge TV transmitter in Crystal Palace so I’ve just purchased a cheap indoor antenna in the hopes the signal is strong enough in my basement flat.

I can confirm the connect duo does allow you to do cable as well as ota. It’s a setting in the HDHomeRun software. go to my.hdhomerun.com and it will connect to your Duo, then click on channels, and at the top next to detect channels is a drop down, in there you will find a choice for Antenna and a choice for Cable. I am using a US Model, I am unsure if they differ going across the pond.
