Differences between "SiliconDust HDHomeRun CONNECT Duo" and a "digital antenna alone"

Hello friends,

Maybe my question is silly but as I am new to this area I need to ask:

I have an Apple TV, Plex pass, a smart Samsung TV plus a digital indoor antenna. Right now I have attached the antenna directly to the TV and get about 15 channels which are not very useful; now my question is if I get a SiliconDust HDHomeRun CONNECT Duo and attached the antenna to it, does it mean I will reveice more channels or what?
Whats the total benefit of having a HDHomeRun with my system?

Thank you and sorry for asking such amateur question!

The SiliconDust is just a tuner (or a pair of tuners), just like what you have in your TV. Some tuners are better than others in dealing with low-signal broadcasts that you receive via your antenna; however, it just may be that you need a better antenna or that this is as good as it gets due to other physical factors (such as the geography between you and the broadcast towers, the distance to the towers, etc).

The reason for adding a SD tuner to your Plex set up is so that you can watch live TV from the Plex app (instead of switching to your TV to watch it there directly) and for the DVR software from Plex (including having the recordings show up in the Plex app).

Many folks here are long-time Plex users and don’t want to deal with a another way of watching content on their TVs, they just want to use Plex for everything.

No whatever channels you get you will get on the hdhr.

What the hdhr does is provide a tuner with built in hardware compression.

Your tv has a tuner card which picks up channels the hdhr does the same thing but provides those channels and converts them into a Ethernet stream so other computers can watch at the same time which your tv can’t do. Also with the duo you can watch one thing and record something else at the same time hence the name duo…

With the hdhr you can add it to Plex and have Plex record stuff for you and add it to your library after it’s done.

Thank you so much greatly appreciate for prompt reply.
