No audio on native Windows clients (web, mobile OK)

Web client is fine, as are mobile and Google TV apps. The problem is on native Windows clients (I am on Win 11, everything is up to date including Plex media server running on same computer).

  • Problem 1: no audio in video files
  • Problem 2a: Get the following error on Plex HTPC Windows client when playing local audio file: “Playback Error An unexpected playback problem occurred”
  • Problem 2b: On regular Plex Windows client, get “An unknown error occurred (4294967282)”

It is tied to the audio output. I have a usb audio device (Behringer UMC204HD) that I use to output to my speakers. The USB audio device works fine with all media playback on every other client app I’ve tried. When I switch (in Plex HTPC client) to the HDMI audio output into my monitor, the errors go away and I hear sound. But I want it through the USB audio device connected to my speakers.

With the USB audio device connected, I’ve tried all manner of Audio output options, same problem. Tried uninstalling / reinstalling, removing Plex HTPC folder from AppData. The only “fix” (which isn’t really a fix) is to change to HDMI audio, which I don’t want.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise here.
