No Audio with Hevc video (EAC3 5.1) PMP

Server Version#: LatestPlex.log.rar (13.7 KB)
Player Version#: 2.58.0.1076-38e019da

I can’t get any audio playing back Hevc video files with EAC 5.1, but the video plays perfectly.
Same file plays fine with audio on Plex in Firefox, and also in Plex on Panasonic TV via Amazon firestick, and also with vlc on Windows.

Windows 10 x64, Ryzen CPU, 1070ti Gpu.

Try pressing the + button on the keyboard during playback.

Please do also compare with Plex (Player) for Windows.

That was the first thing I tried. Volume is at max. I am using the Plex player for Windows, video works but no sound, and only with hevc files. Other formats have sound.
I would prefer to use that instead of the browser version.

Your version number above says that you are using Plex Media Player and not Plex Player for Windows.

OK, I see Now. I didn’t realise there was a difference. I downloaded the 64bit Plex for Windows from the top link on the Apps & Devices tab from: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app

Still no sound unfortunately.

Do you have passthrough (bitstreaming) activated?

Could you post the first ~20 lines from the Plex XML info of this item?

If this isn’t what you mean, tell me where to get it and I’ll upload.

See the support document below (same as what OttoKerner linked in his post).

You’ll want to Get Info → View XML. You’ll see a browser screen full of XML info.

Save at lest down to the line with </Media>. The genre, cast list, etc isn’t needed.

Save the info as a text file or zip it before attaching to the thread. The forum does not permit .xml attachments.

OK, thanks, I got it. The forum won’t allow me to upload files right now, so here’s a screenshot.

I get audio when I play a 4K video with EAC3 sound. Both in PMP and Plex for Windows.

Have you signed-in both players to your Plex account? They need this to download the necessary codec.

Yes, signed in to both. If I playback at Original 4k, I get perfect picture and no sound. If I play at converted 1080, I get a washed out picture and audio is fine.

Even if there was an option to only convert the audio, that would work for me. I can’t see that the issue is anywhere other than the Plex player, since I have no trouble with other players using exactly the same setup and files.

I can’t see PMP being signed into your account. There is only Plex for Windows.

I just used PMP, and my account is signed in. I also have my Plex server running and opened in the browser window.

Plex Windows: Playback at 4k with no sound, lowered to 1080p and sound ok but washed out picture.

Playback via browser, signed in, Picture washed out, sound ok.

Playback via VLC and MPC-BE is perfect, 4k full color with sound.

I can’t think what else to do, this affects streaming from friends shares if they have hevc files. Is there a particular codec I can just get manually and put it into the plex folder?

I fixed the issue by deleting and uninstalling Plex, and also the registry items. I then downloaded Plex For Windows and Plex Media Player. Now my files play at full quality with sound.
