No connection to Plex Media Server

What’s the Avast software?

Also try creating inbound and outbound firewall rules for python.exe using the following method:

Avast is a free antivirus protection program with realtime monitoring. That’s what I tried to turn off. I also have malwarebytes but it is not active.

I used the method in the guide to create the rules for the firewall. Those are the rules listed above. If I didn’t do it right let me know.

I just couldn’t see the tab with the path to python.exe so wasn’t sure if they were created correctly. Is Avast purely antivirus or the security suite, if the latter it might be worth trying uninstalling it for testing.

I uninstalled the security suite and restarted the computer then tried it again and same error.

On a whim I tried to readd the certificate using the trailers.apple.com method. I had the old certificate installed via usb last time. Still nothing.

I'm thinking about trying to install plex and plex connect on my laptop to test if it works on my network..

Definitely worth a try, if it works it would identify that it is something on your laptop. Just a though but if you check add/remove programs you don’t have two versions of python installed do you?

Only one python program installed. However, in the Python folder on the C: drive there is a pythonw.exe in addition to python.exe

Followup:

I installed Plex Media Server on a laptop that is on the same network as my desktop that was running Plex Media Server, fresh install. Installed PlexConnect. Both the laptop and Desktop PMS libraries now show on the Apple TV. Movies from both laptop and desktop both play with no issues.

So the issue seems related to my desktop installation only, and the issue seems to be with PlexConnect acting as DNS server. On a whim I tried to run the server on the desktop and it still gave the same error.
