No plex media server in proximity

Hello,

 

I am sorry if this problem was posted before, i searched for 3 days in order to make it work but no luck unfortunately.

 

I installed plexconnect on an ATV 3 vers. 5.3, i installed the certificates and everything but every time i run it i get the error ,No plex media server in proximity,.

 

I am running windows vista, i disabled the firewall completely. Here is a log of plexconnect.py running in administrator mode.

So first question, so you had plex media server installed on you network?


Try setting plexgdm to false and put In the IP address on the PMS into the settings.cfg file.

I dont know if plex media server is installed, i only have one certificate installed in ,iPhone configuration utility,.

My computer ip is 192.168.0.115 and my default gateway is 192.168.0.1

I modified the settings.cfg plexgdm to false but still the ,no plex media server, error.

Do you understand what plexconnect is?


You have to have a plex media server (PMS) for plex connect to work.

I understand what it is, i dont know if i had to install other certificates and make other changes before the 5.3 update which were not included in the tutorials. Here is a picture of plexconnect folder and iphone cfg utility

Your error is nothing to do with the certificate (well this one anyway). The problem is that plex connect cannot find your plex media server.

Ok i can understand this but what may be the causes ?

I guess:

 - The plex connect server ip may be wrong (what is the standard ip and in which file can i locate it?)

 - The ports may be closed (i can guess that completely disabling the windows firewall should have managed that)

 - What other options can I check ?

I'm getting the impression you didn't install the Plex Media Server somehow. If you did, please ignore the following:

Installing Plex Connect and the certificates isn't sufficient, you also should install the Plex Media Server. And while it seems you haven't installed the PMS, you also receive the error "no plex media server".

So looking at your last three questions:

- The plex connect server ip may be wrong (what is the standard ip and in which file can i locate it?)

-> Depends on where you install it.

- The ports may be closed (i can guess that completely disabling the windows firewall should have managed that)

-> Depends on your network and your install.

- What other options can I check ?

-> If you installed the server correctly and if it's up-and-running.

 

PS: Sorry about jumping in Drewbie but I had the idea it might perhaps save you from having forehead imprints in a wall

Thank you very much guys, you were right, i didnt know that i have to install Plex Media Server also because in the tutorials it only show how to install plexconnect.

I have 1 remaining question

PlexConnect only helps to read the files from my computer ? Doesnt it have a on-line library of movies ?

PlexConnect is basically nothing more then a fully-functional Plex client on un-jailbroken ATV2 and ATV3. A copy/paste from http://elan.plexapp.com/2013/06/04/introducing-plexconnect-an-appletv-client-which-thinks-different/: Essentially, you run a program on your computer which masquerades as the Trailer app.

So I'm not sure with what you mean by an on-line library of movies, sorry about that. The being on-line of movies depends imho fully on the PMS being available or not, if the PMS is running the movies should be on-line and if it's not running then the error message "no plex media server, error" would appear and the movies would be off-line.
