As of lately, a good number of files are no longer found by my PMS installation.
All podcasts are located in a “Podcasts” folder; total number of playable files there is about 1500.
That folder is a subfolder of the “music” share; share permissions should be fine.
It seems like all files in folders created after April 2019 aren’t seen by PMS.
Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT (a share) - Permissions (tab)
will let you see if user Plex has permission to the share.
If you’ve copied files over via a network share (most common), you may need to go back and add permissions at the file level if the share itself already has permission.
Give this a quick read and see if it might apply / assist ?
Turned out that for some material added just recently, user plex did apparently not have access. How I came to effectively see: added the user explicitely to some folders for which it wasn’t listed yet, and voila, the items started showing up in PMS.
So it wasn’t the share level, but rather, some folders.
I guess I don’t really understand yet what I’ll need to watch out for in order to not re-create that problem. I usually add new material via SMB, as a different user. So I might have to check for plex to have permissions after each add? I hope there’s a better way.
Does your computer (SMB client) username have a matching username on the Synology? Do you map/mount with that username?
If so, files will be written as your username in the users group.
Plex is also a users group member so it can read that media provided access is granted at the share level. ( This is how I was able to lower the privilege level for PMS on Synology )
