About to start pulling out my few remaining hairs…
I recently bought an Nvidia Shield, primarily to use as a replacement for my old, tired Windows Plex Server. So far it’s been a mixed bag.
When attempting to access certain libraries such as music, TV, and Live TV directly on the Shield, I get a “No Internet Connection” error. On other devices, The recommended tab gets an error – “There was an unexpected error loading this library” but if I switch to the library tab it loads just fine.
I’ve checked and cross-checked every setting on the shield and through Plex.tv, Updated the server through the Google store, and a lot more, but the problem remains. I’ve spent hours setting this up, and I don’t want to uninstall and start over. Someone, anyone, please help!
So, here’s the scoop. I ended up clearing cache and data on the Shield and started over from scratch. I’m one week in and everything is now working properly.
I assume my issues were the result of moving the Plex app and associated data around on the Shield, but that’s just a guess.
My advice if you buy one of the new Shields is to purchase a high speed USB drive and set it up as internal storage before you ever open your Plex app on the Shield. Make sure your server is on the added storage. Only then should you log in and start adding libraries. The stock storage of 16gb won’t support even a mildly well populated library
I found the Shield to be much slower at adding/scanning library items than even my ancient old PC, but once it has completed its tasks it’s more than adequate for my purposes. I don’t really do any transcoding, so I don’t expect that assessment to change in the near future.
